Phobia thinks there should be a Planet Tailgate at games

Copy and pasted from another thread:

B5 isn't the ChiefsPlanet official tailgate. We don't have one. B5 is a meeting point for Planeteers, but it actually belongs to a group of people who have been tailgating together for many years - only one of whom is a Planeteer. This is why there is no ChiefsPlanet flag nor any other identifying characteristics. We *really* need to find and identify an OFFICIAL ChiefsPlanet rallying point.

The following is not so much a bitch about as it is a compliment to another group of Chiefs fans:

This weekend, I was invited to participate in another internet organization's charity events, attend their tailgate, and sit in their section at the game. ChiefsPlanet has 10x as many registered users and has been around 4x as long - yet, their participation level was quadruple anything I've ever seen with ChiefsPlanet. That is probably attributed to their leadership, because I was shocked at how organized and well done their events were.

We need to find somebody who is willing to take the tailgating ball and run with it. Hell, we could eventually even buy a ChiefsPlanet tailgating bus or something cool like that.... We have the numbers, now we just need to find the people to make it happen.
I said:

I like the planet tailgating idea. Sounds like people have a hard time finding B5. I would suggest down by where the pope/ hearst guy is by the entrace to Arrowhead in first few rows by the aisle in the "D" parking lot. It's easy to find. People can stop by on their way into the stadium.

So whats your opinion?

This puts a lot of work on one person. There are only a select few that would be there every time, so the "host" wouldn't know if he needed to prepare for 1 or 20. Obviously there could be a "sign-up" on the planet before each game, but I'll guarantee there will be games where half the people show up, and other games where twice as many as expected show up. It also requires them to get to the gates early in the morning to get the same spot every game.

Who provides the beer and food? The best bet would be BYO, but people would show up half prepared and end up mooching off of others. No big deal for one game, but it gets spendy week after week. Simple things like plates and condiments that no one brings so the host ends up buying for an army every week.

Then there's the cooking. Say I'm hosting and fire up the grill first thing. Spend 30 minutes cooking, then a few more guys "stop by", and it starts all over again. Basically all of us "somtimes" guys are asking someone to put in a lot of time, effort, and likely money, just to set up a tourist stop for us. Guys will pull into the lot wanting to stop by, but the group they're with won't want to.

And that doesn't even address the set-up and clean-up. While you guys are pulling into the lot at your leisure, the "host" has already sat in line waiting for the gates to opena and set up the site. As you guys stroll off to the stadium, the "host" is left to clean up and put everything away. Repeat process if you tailgate post-game.

I know this from experience. I've tried to get a group from another Bboard to all tailgate at one spot. I get ten people that say they'll be there, and one shows up. So I'm left with a cooler full of meat and beer. The next time, I say everyone's welcome, but it's BYO, and everyone shows up empty handed. The "host" in me wants everyone to enjoy themselves, but it puts a big strain on the amount of fun I can have.

It's a great idea on paper. But if there isn't someone that already has this routine, it's asking a lot of them. Ideally, we need a group of guys that do this consistently regardless of who shows. Not guys that sometimes will have to miss games because of a bitchy wife or a sick kid. It's a big commitment.
1. Sign up, in the parking lot....no big problem, right?
2. BYOB, period. Bring your own stuff, period.
3. Cooking? Who needs cooking...unless you want to; in which case, bring your own. Bring a sub; go through Gate's drive-thru.
4. Everyone cleans up after themselves.
5. Most of us would be happy with a place to congregate, drink a couple of brews, and get to know one another.

THAT doesn't seem too difficult to me; maybe I'm naive though...

Maybe you are. I'm not trying to be a dick. I've done it before, and it can go very smoothly, but often it doesn't.

Just look at the responses so far:

It's in the wrong lot, or too far away.
I'll only be there for a little bit...but I want you to get there at the ass-crack of dawn so I have a place to hang when I do show up.
It has to be a regular thing...even though I can't commit to it.

IMO, it would be easier for someone to say "here's my cell#, call me when you get in the lot and I'll tell you where I'm at".

Here's the only thing I can honestly offer. Any game I go to, you're welcome to come party at my tailgate. Sometimes there's a few, other times there's a lot. If you tell me in advance, I'll bring what you need. The only time I can tell you where I'm at is after I park (although I can give you a general idea beforehand). If you want to meet me early, you can follow me to the gates and we'll park next to each other and it will be very easy.

Beyond that, it's just a bunch of us sometimers that want a party to be waiting for us when (or if) we show up.

If it was easy to pull off it would already be happening. That was the original point of Phobia. Theres a lot of work that would have to be done to pull it off and someone or somebodies need to step up that can and possess the "want to" to pull it off

Not sure why this is listed as a "problem." Works just fine for Bob Dole.

In all seriousness, I don't expect people to cater to me. I will bring my own drink and probably have already eaten beforehand. So, I will just show up and drink a couple brews and bullshit with you all. Not much planning required for that.

You want a drink? BYOB. You want to grill? Bring your own ribs. Nothing fancy. Just show up drink a beer or two go into the game. No biggie. Just come up with a meeting place. If it gets to be a regular occurance with plenty of planeters you can start think more organized and fun raising to get a bus etc...but thats all down the line.

And I thought that's what B5 was....I'm beginnin' to think though, that maybe Dartgod is simply too gracious to tell us to get lost, or that people were becoming uncomfortable not wanting to "impose." And I think, in both instances, those are reasonable reactions.

If it is truly no imposition on Dartgod, I'd say why not stick with B5? If it is an imposition, let's designate someplace else that is centrally located.

You can't really expect Dartgod to say anything but it's cool. He's the Eric hicks of the planet. He's got to back up his planet buddies or he loses face with his buddies. If you are truly his buddy also you don't put him in that position. But I've never met Dartgod and don't know him so I cant speak for him or about him. It's just a general observation on the situation from someone whos never been to B5.

You are probably right. I'm a straight-shooter; what you see is what you get. If you ask me a question, I'm gonna give you a straight answer. My impression of Dartgod is, if it wasn't Kosher....he'd tell us.

Then again, not everyone is the insensitive, cold, uncaring cad that I am.
