Taylor was what they signed him to be during this playoff run.

Other than the hullshit targeting he got thanks to Cris Collinsworth’s sexual predator ass, he was really good for KC. Nice to have stability at one T spot, a place you know CAN hold up against a good rusher without help.

I thought Taylor had his best game of the season last night.

Yeah he's played really well when we needed it most. Didn't hear anything last night about him.

I think he earned an opportunity to 'ascend' to LT.

Maybe it doesn't work, but he has a whole off-season to work on it and I see no reason why it wouldn't.

Taylor's a part of the solution going forward. He's young, he's athletic, he's strong and he's still improving. He's your long-term LT, IMO.

He had a really great playoff run. Cleaned up his penalties and blocked really well. I think he even stopped the twitching he used to do before the snap so there were no plays that could have been called a FS but weren't. He was our best Lineman by far in the playoffs.

Sure, that's an option for sure.

If they end up leaving him on the right side and just rolling with that, it would be fine with me, too.

LT and RT are not as different as they once were. You need athletic pass blockers at both spots. And teams don't leave DEs on "their side" no matter what anymore, either.

All comes down to who they have to pair with Taylor and where they're better, for me.

Absolutely.

But for MOST teams, the distinction in RT vs. LT is the help provided by the TE. We don't get as much benefit there because Kelce spends less time in-line than most. But when the majority of teams don't operate the same way we do, that's a market force that makes RTs a little cheaper.

So if you can get a better player for the same money (or an equal player for less money) at RT than you can at LT, do that, upgrade the total talent level of your bookkends and move Taylor to LT.

That's why I air-quoted 'ascend' when I said it - on THIS team, it's not really some massive promotion. But on the market, I think you can get a little more for your money at RT.

If they are planning to go with him and Morris at tackle next year, then you absolutely give Taylor the shot at LT. Morris seemed in way over his head on the left side and most of his college experience is at RT. May as well put the weakest link at the spot where he has the best chance to succeed and not screw anything up.

I still hope they manage to bring Smith back on a reasonable deal, though.

Above my pay grade.

But I'd be willing to give him a chance to win the job vs a lower cost veteran.

yes. I will say I thought it was smart to leave Taylor on the right side and not try to move him to the left in the middle of the season.

Offseason may be a different story.

It will be Wanya's first year in an NFL offseason program. I bet he makes a large jump next year. Interior line depth will be an issue. Allegretti is a capable backup and fill in but he's an UFA. Your swing tackle is Niang (assuming Donovan Smith leaves), Darrius Kinnard (G/T?), Mike Calliendo (IOL), Wanogho (Injured/OT).

They'll probably bottom feed on a Vet (or 2) if the price is right. You can bet Brett Veach is trolling the roster cuts now

There were folks here suggesting we cut him midseason.
