No. No additional challenges allowed.

Bill Belichick agrees. He has long wanted everything reviewable.

I can't find it now, but I think I read earlier today that when challenging, you have to specify the player who committed the foul (if a non-call). So it's not like you can just wing it out there.
I have no doubt this will lead to some controversial overturns, but I'll take that over someone getting utterly ****ed over like the Saints did.

That is a Royals player in a blue warmup jacket, clearly on the field of play before Colon scores. Hell I'm not even sure the whole team is allowed to be that far out fo the dugout. If non-calls counted in football, I could see a team of people in the booth looking at the all-22 just waiting for the right time to challenge some obscure rule that the refs usually ignore or something. It could be like the tag review in baseball where it changes the game. |

Or better yet a monetary reward for not making egregious errors.

One things is for sure this is going to make that challenge flag infinitely more valuable.
With all scoring plays, turnovers and inside 2 minutes going to the booth - coaches have rightly figured out they should use it on just about any bad call. Now they'll probably want to hold on to a flag for a huge PI call/no-call. |

Boy, this is going to have a run-on effect.
Next we're going to need VERY specific rules about offensive/defensive PI. People are going to, overall, not be happy about the way the refs call these reviews. It's going to slow down games. It opens the door for OTHER penalty reviews. It's going to be hard to handle for the refs. |

Pretty much. If that play doesn't occur none of these new rules on OPI/DPI happen.

Roughing the passer or not roughing the passer. This may never end.

This is just pretty stupid. The NFL needs to be more like college. Just build a tech replay room at every stadium. Put a referee and a tech specialist in there for each game. Maybe use Referees who can't physically run as much anymore but who are smart about the game. They can have the latest tech, HD4k monitors with instant access to every camera. Rolling back-n-forth replay capabilities etc.
During the game, the tech will show the ref whatever he wants to see. He will be able to see everything the fans see. The ref has until the next play starts to identify any problems. He can buzz down AND TELL the field refs what to change. Don't waste time having the field refs run over to a tablet or any stupid crap like that. The skybox ref makes the calls ... period. I don't care if it hurts the field refs feelings. Each Coach gets 2 challenges per half, they can challenge any play the way for any reason they want. The skybox ref will make all final judgments. Easy peasy, much faster and 80% of the stuff happens behind the scenes where nobody will see. They will only see something with the skybox judge buzzes down to change something and tells where to mark the ball and set the clock. Complete expands the review system without a bunch of crap and adding a bunch of time delays. The NFL has so much money they should be able to have tech hardware and software that revolutionalizes review abilities for sports. They should hire a firm to write new software/hardware just to fit NFL reviews. |
