It comes down to a liability issue. If the cat was on your property then sure, let the neighbor know. It's their responsibility to keep their pet secure so they would have no legal recourse. If your dog got out and killed it, then probably not. They could sue you for their loss which in most cases would be the value of the cat. Tree fiddy ought to just about cover it.

Initial thought is yes, but in this day and age I'd say it depends on the neighbor. The logical way to look at it is your dog did a dog thing, the cat was on your property, and shit happens. Also, cats that live exclusively indoors have three times the life expectancy of cats that spend time outdoors, because there are all kinds of things outside that can kill a cat. Not my job to judge your neighbors, but they rolled the dice by letting Frisky roam outside and came up snake eyes.
But we do not live in logical times, and if you suspect your neighbors will go berserk over it, I'd keep my mouth shut. |

Plus, Roy's an old man with health issues. Crazy/angry neighbors are bad enough to deal with when you're young.

Yes. And I would expect the same response I would give, “shit! That sucks. Hey, thanks for telling me. Is their anything left to bury?”
Frazod said it. I know the risks involved with letting my cats be indoor/outdoor. Well, mostly one cat. The other one will go sit on the patio furniture once in awhile but is never out long. The other loves to hunt, be outside, meet neighbors, etc. He would be miserable if we didn’t let him go outside. As he gets older and slower, the likelihood of him getting caught by a dog, a coyote, or a car increase. If that is his end one day, so be it. Would rather that be the outcome over him withering away and suffering from depression because he had to sit indoors all day. |

Lol. But he does have a bell on his collar. Mice, chipmunks and squirrels in my neighborhood must be deaf as shit.
