What actually happened is, the construction unions went on strike during the building of the sports complex. It put the building timeline way behind schedule, and there were massive cost over runs. The Jackson County Sports Authority told a lie to the public because Jackson County is a heavily Democratic and Union Membership County. The Sports Authority said that the cost prediction failed to account for enough money for access roads into the stadium, so the money that would have went to the roof was spent instead on access roads. So the rolling roof was axed. That really sucked, because the rolling roof idea was what sold the project to the voters. Now, a rolling roof would be way too expensive and not the best coverage alternative. Arrowhead could be enclosed for wet weather, but would be hard to enclose for cold. And again, the Chiefs like it being cold in December because they see it as a competitive advantage against other AFC West teams. Like today.
