Was Hill's pass the worst call of Reid's career?

So let me get this straight...you have all the momentum against the #1 ranked defense and are up 2 scores in the 1st quarter. You call a time out and proceed to have a WR throw into compressed coverage?

What the **** was Reid's thought process here? You have two MVP candidates on your offense...and that's the brilliant plan? A simple FG puts you up 3 scores.

It completely changed the flow of the game...for no reason.

I understood the Poe pass...it was late and the game was in control but there were 3 quarters of the game left tonight.

Even if it had worked...it was still a terrible call...especially at the particular juncture in the game.

I haven't seen every game AR has ever coached but this HAS to be up there as one of the worst...I think everyone across the country was collectively saying "What the **** was that"...My eye literally twitched after that play call.

The call wasn't that absurd, but the execution was abysmal. Hill has way too much going for him to bag on him too much for it, but it almost played out like a '**** it, I give up' play. The receiver was open enough to attempt a high pass for him to sky for at the back of the endzone, but Hill threw it directly into the breadbasket of the only person available to defend it. And even if the defender wasn't standing right there to intercept it, it was too low for the receiver to come back to, even if he was the only person on that side of the endzone.

It was a headscratcher, and indicated a desperate need to return to the drawing board to drill contingencies and improv in the future. But it wasn't that outlandish as drawn up.

14-0 and going in for a back breaking kill shot to take their soul from the 5 yard line. You have moved the ball right on down so what's the call? Hill on a half back pass for his first time ever.

It made lesss than zero sense. It was a negative 100 idea.

Given he burned Denver with the Poe pass I think it was dumb, you know they were looking for something like that. It also was a lack of respect for the game 17 or 21 nothing at that stage would have been game over, instead it was kept close and the offense never really got going again.

That was the biggest problem. You only call that play if you're 100% confident that you're receiver is smart enough to throw that ball away and settle for three points if the pass isn't available. Tyreek looked like he was going to throw that pass no matter what. Poor execution. I wouldn't trust Tyreek to run that play at all.

Gruden called it before the snap. Said "Watch out for the half back pass on this one". If Gruden could see it, methinks the best defense in the NFL will probably have a clue on it...

Agreed but I disagree it was a head scratcher. Reid was going for the "psychological kill" for the game IF it was executed correctly. One wonders how much they practiced this play because Hill gave away the play way too soon even before he passed it and then when he did it was as though they only practiced it maybe 2 or 3 times and called it good. Reid must of been satisfied enough in practice to call it. You could see TH was nervous and it definitely showed. The only thing that caught Denver off guard about that play was that TH is left-handed but now the rest of the league knows. This is all on Hill because if bluffed and thrown correctly the WR is plenty open in back of the end zone.

Tucking the ball and bluffing the sweep run is "essential" for the HB pass to work because it almost automatically pulls the DBs up and especially when it is TH running. TH did not bluff but rather had the ball automatically in his hands showing pass. FAIL !!
