God, I thought we would be able to have a season where we weren't arguing over the merits of CEH's mediocrity again. Getting Alex Smith nam' flashbacks again.

Hes going to annoy the **** out of us all season when he gets carries. And I'm sure he will be effective. But its those twice every ten plays running into the back of our Olinemen that will do it.

Also Ross is a lock for the 53 right?

The Clyde issue is guaranteed money.

If you cut Clyde, you still take his $2 million or so in guarantees on your cap but then someone replaces him that costs in the $700K range on the top 51. So cutting Clyde is cap negative.

With as tight as we are on the cap, it just may not be something they're willing to do for a nominal upgrade on the 3rd or even 4th RB.

If they can't get him traded for a ham sandwich, I think they'll keep him. If they had maybe $5 million in cap space I could see MEH and Watson getting cut. But as it stands, if they have to pay those guys, they also need to have them as a couple of placeholders on the top 51. Otherwise it's just dead money hits AND the 2 salaries for the guys that shell game into the top 51 in their absence.

They haven't done anything to get any capspace, so either a move is coming or they are still optimistic on Jones.

Those are the only options right?

Or they just don't intend to take on any dead money.

I mean technically Kendall Blanton has a $1 million cap hit but it's not guaranteed and he has no signing bonus. So there's a million bucks cleared without dead money.

Deon Bush could get you another million. Blake Bell, Matt Dickerson, Austin Reiter; that's $3.3 million or so. Now I believe those guys have VSB so they make about a million but they have cap hits in the $900K range. But they could be backfilled by guys like Bushman, Hailassie, Truman Jones and Mike Caliendo and you'd gain about $200K per guy once the top 51 settles out. Blanton and Bush don't have VSBs so you're talking about 300K per cut there.

So with some of these moves that could be made, we could sneak out another $1 million or so and find a little more breathing room.

It's just such a lean cap. I don't know that folks understand how well constructed our cap sheet is at the moment. The problem is that we have a $28 million hit throwing a ****ing temper tantrum at the moment.

But yeah, that's not a problem really. It's not like Jones is accounting for more than Kelce, Omenihu and both of our starting offensive tackles COMBINED or anything....

Just really a big fan of Chris Jones and his pride at the moment...

Oh yeah, and remember when we signed Frank Clark "for the same as it would cost to cut him!!"

Yeah, we have $7.8 million in dead cap right now and $7.6 million of that is Clark's. But we "Essentially got him for free" - remember? I know that's the case because Matt Derrick said so and if someone has a Twitter account, they must be right.

So why not just put him on the PS then?

PS is a new contract.

You get cut, clear waivers, sign to the PS if that's the only option available to you.

By the time you put him on the PS, the dead money is already on the cap.

Cut Clyde, Blanton, Dickerson, and Reiter then replace them with Perine, Bushman a couple other cheap rookies at different positions (Because roster construction says Dickerson and likely Reiter weren't making the squad anyway) and I think you're roughly cost netural.

I'd kinda like to replace Bush with Khalief the Thief as well and that's just another little $300K kicker that could help.

You can get it done via cutting slightly more expensive veterans and replacing them with the cheaper rookies. But there's just nowhere we're going to find 'easy' money at this point.
