Holmes AFC Player of the Month for Oct, 2004

Holmes Named October's AFC Offensive Player of the Month
Nov 03, 2004, 1:31:12 PM

The National Football League informed the Chiefs on Wednesday that RB Priest Holmes has been named AFC Player of the Month for October. This marks the second time he has earned this distinction; he was also named AFC Player of the Month for October of 2002. Holmes is the first Chiefs player to win such honors since WR Dante Hall took home AFC Special Teams Player of the Month accolades for September 2003.

Holmes (5-9, 213) was a principle contributor to the Chiefs going 3-1 in the month of October with wins at Baltimore (10/4), vs. Atlanta (10/24) and vs. Indianapolis (10/31). Over the past four games Holmes has compiled three 100-yard rushing performances, totaling 106 carries for 482 yards (4.5 avg.) with nine TDs. He also posted 10 receptions for 170 yards with one TD. In a 56-10 win vs. Atlanta he scored four of the Chiefs NFL-record eight rushing TDs. The following week vs. the Colts, Holmes recorded 225 total yards from scrimmage, making him the Chiefs all-time leader in career yards from scrimmage with 7,583, surpassing the previous mark owned by WR Otis Taylor (7,467). Remarkably, Holmes set the record in just 53 games. Taylor registered his numbers in 130 contests with the Chiefs.

Holmes now leads the NFL in rushing (833 yards), scoring (84 points) and touchdowns (14). The three-time Pro Bowler is also on schedule to become the first player in NFL history to register 20+ rushing touchdowns in three consecutive seasons. He is currently on pace for 29 rushing TDs in 2004 which would break the NFL record of 27 he set in 2003.

Since the start of the 2001 season, Holmes leads the NFL with 5,423 rushing yards, 7,583 yards from scrimmage, 69 rushing TDs and is tied with Green Bay’s Ahman Green with 24 100-yard games in the regular season. Holmes ranks first in club history with 69 rushing TDs and 75 total TDs.

The San Antonio, Texas native entered the league as a rookie free agent with Baltimore before signing with the Chiefs as a free agent in 2001. The Texas alum prepped at Marshall High School in San Antonio.

Man, Brian Waters must be disappointed.

Good for Priest. It's nice to see him get recognition.

Misfortunes? Hell the guy popped up like it was nothing. He is one bad ass dude. But I wish he would be a little more conservative leaving the ground like that or else we will suffer the misfortune of not having him around.
