You get to pick any Chief from all time in his prime to join this team. Who?

Saw this somewhere on Twitter. Looked like a fun topic.

To clarify. Player had to play for the Chiefs. Player did not need his prime to be with the Chiefs.

Poll added. Player must be mentioned twice as primary answer to be eligible for poll.

In hindsight I wish I had created a poll for this but not knowing all the suggestions.....

I can’t find a way to edit the post into a poll I assume there is no way to do that?

Can you create a poll when you make a post but wait until later to enter the options?

Players like Jack Lambert and "Concrete" Charlie Bednarik would laugh at that statement. (Edited to include Dick Butkus in that statement; I can't believe I left him out.)

My Heart says Gary Spani, his 157 tackles in 1979 was incredible. He was my inspiration to wear #59 in high school and college. However, I understand that would not be the wisest choice. Len Dawson, deserves some mention,(who else good drink a Mr. Pibb and suck on a heater at halftime of the Superbowl and still win) although with Montana and Mahomes it makes it moot.

Mahomes would be my initial choice, as he was the MVP last year. Derrick Thomas a close second.

I'm not sure they'd beat the team with Don Hutson. But it would be fun to watch.

Strong, fluid, fast, and cat-quick from sideline to sideline, Bobby Bell was Donnie Edwards, DJ, and DT in one package. An intelligent football player that was like House M.D. on the field -- the man could diagnose plays pre-snap and unravel them like a cheap sweater. Oh, and he was a snarling nasty SOB that punished when he tackled; Bobby Bell didn't pussyfoot on the football field-- he delivered justice.

Picking an offensive player for what will surely already be a top
Three offense seems so so so silly.

The question is between Dale Carter and Darrell’s Revis. DC got takeaways and could return kicks. Revis Island shut down an entire side of the field.

Knowing that Brady won’t put the ball in harm’s way, and that’s who we have to beat, I would take Revis. Letting him shadow Edelman or OBJ or TY Hilton or Hopkins will open up the rest of the defense to creative blitzes.

Love DT, but we have defensive linemen.

Love Tony G paired with Kelce, but getting an elite defender is more valuable.

Underrated answer:

Derrick Johnson

Yea, imagine the O-line with Grunny, Shields, Roaf at one tackle and John Alt at the other. Talk about a "road grader" line, Mahomes might get bored not having to scramble though.

Has to be a defensive player at a spot we need talent. The offense is super stacked already and the defense lineup has some stars on it that don’t need replaced. That takes out the following:

Priest
Charles
Gonzalez
Roaf
Shields

That brings us to positions of need:

CB1
LDE
MLB
SLB

Revis is probably the guy that would help improve the team the most, but he didn’t really “play here” in terms of I don’t see him as a Chief. Albert Lewis was great when I was a kid and while I played competitively. He could do everything and brought an infectious attitude. Dale Carter, Marcus Peters, and James Hasty are probably the three others. Nobody took the ball away like Marcus Peters and that could pay huge dividends with Pat lighting up scoreboards and opposing teams trying to keep up.

DT, Jones, Nnadi and Clark would be an amazing DL. Possibly in contention for best ever. Spags runs his defense around the DL and I’m a huge fan of stacking position groups to force opposing teams to limit the ways they can attack us. The main concern is either DT or Clark would need to be the LDE in this defense and neither is really built for it. DT wasn’t really a great run defender and neither is Clark. It’s worth discussion if that would provide more impact than a corner or linebacker.

I never saw Lanier, Bell or others from that era play so I don’t think I’d be making an educated choice by choosing one of them over guys I’ve watched their whole careers. Derrick Johnson would be an intriguing choice with his coverage abilities and run stopping ability he would be PERFECT for MLB in this defense.

I really like our safeties. I think Veach took possibly the worst safety group in the league and turned them into a top 5 unit in one offseason. Sorry Ross, Berry and many others...but I’m not changing that unit up.

So, that boils it down to

Lewis
Carter
Peters
Hasty
DT
DJ

****, that’s tough to choose from. I guess the only fair way to do it is to pick the best overall player from that group and I think that not even a debate.

Gimme Derrick Thomas.
