Biggest issue is they don't disguise stuff as much as they should. Not sure why, but you sit in one way pre snap and don't move, you're gonna get torched.

Our secondary can't handle simple assignments. So I don't think giving them more stuff to do/think about would work.

It's not really assignments, it's just coverage though.

Just physical shit.

The defenses combined to have a 50% stop rate last night.

I feel like they do - they just don't time it very well.

They don't 'deke' all that much, though. When we're sending a blitzer, either the blitzer delays correctly and we catch them off-guard or he gets their early, gives it away....and then goes anyway.

We don't fake that blitz and drop back as much as I'd like; it would make those out of sync blitzes a little more effective because the QB would still have to worry about a zone drop even when a safety comes flying up.

A lot of DCs give their veteran players freedom to make those decisions on their own. Not the 'go/stay' call but the window dressing they put around it. They trust their who's tasked with a middle zone to go blasting 'early' towards the line to make it look like a blitz and then fall back to where they were going to be anyway.

It's possible Sutton allows his guys to do that and we just don't have anyone comfortable enough to do it. It's also possible that he doesn't trust anyone enough to allow it.

As for disguising their basic coverage looks - they did that several times yesterday and just couldn't get their depth properly. They tried to fake a cover 1 look a few times and Parker just never got back. They also had a couple of Cover 2 looks that were actually Cover 1s and Parker got thrown over top of as he was trying to get down for the short routes because it looked to me like Goff just didn't respect it either way.

When I say that Parker got caught in between a lot yesterday, a lot of the time it was when we were trying to disguise looks, at least upon my first viewing.

I reiterate, Sutton is really hamstrung by his safety play, especially when it comes to trying to mix coverage looks. It's really frustrating to me that he won't give Lucas a chance there.

Corners? Yeah.

Safeties? Nah. A lot of the times the safeties appeared to just vapor-lock.

Poor Nelson, OTOH, spent all night knowing exactly what he was supposed to be doing and simply being beat by more physically gifted WRs in Woods and Cooks. And if he tried to counter by being physical, the flag came out. If we'd have tried to give him more help, they'd have leaned on Gurley.

That's why that rush was so damn critical and why I'm so irritated with Speaks' no-show and the fact that K-Pass never saw the field. That rush HAD to get home in a reasonable amount of time and by the 4th they simply had nothing left.

You can't ask Nelson (or Scandrick) to stick with those guys for 3+ seconds in coverage - they're more physically gifted than he is and they know where they're going when he doesn't. And I'll be goddamned if Goff just refused to make a rushed throw. That was the other thing - when the pressure got there, Goff just took a sack or dumped it off rather than forcing it.

It just gets back to how hard it is to play defense against good offenses in this league. The D is at such a disadvantage if the O is executing. They needed Goff to make a mistake and he just never made one. So they were left with having to hit him early and after awhile they just lacked the stamina to keep blasting upfield at him.

I can agree with that.

Just get Parker off the field man. I get the whole "devil I know" thing, but ****, he's bad.

This is where the "because CHiefs' thing hits not in the Chiefs play but just in luck. If he doesn't get hurt, I'm pretty sure Earl Thomas is a Chief right now and that mother ****er would make the difference.

It's crazy how we were a day or two away from finalizing that trade and that happened. I bet Earl knew it too and it made him even more pissed at the Seahawks when he got injured. Damn having him would make such a difference.
