Another edition of help Lewdog, the computer illiterate!

My computer is running smooth as shit. You guys rock. Just upgraded our modem to a Nighthawk 2000 and increased our internet speed too and am paying less than our old plan. Be nice to those people on the phone when asking about yearly promotional fees!

We have an older HP printer but it's fine for what I rarely print at home. Every since the upgrade to Windows 10 it's been funky and now totally won't work. It's a wireless printer and it's connected but my computer can't find the driver no matter what I do for troubleshooting.

In the add printers/scanners tab it just says "driver unavailable."

I don’t know if you want to buy a new one but if you do, I got this one a year ago and it’s solid. Laser toner lasts much longer, costs are way lower than ink.

I barely print at home but occasionally do. I’m looking at $100 models if I replace this.

Understood. I don’t do a ton of printing either. The scan capability though is useful. Good luck in your hunt.

First thing I would do is clean out the current drivers. Here's some instructions on how to do that: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product...ment/c02259020

Then download the most current drivers and install them. Here they are: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers.../model/4323605

You might want to look for a firmware update there as well. But only if the new drivers don't work. Beyond that is a new printer.

I have no idea why it looks so expensive when you look it up. I see the $999 one that looks exactly like mine. Weird!

I bought this like 7 years ago for $200. It does everything though and has been pretty nice.

Was curious if I could piggyback with another computer illiterate question as I share the same fate.

I have a Brother All-in-One MDC-L2700DW for my office printer/scanner/fax. It sits up at front desk and is connected to receptionists computer via ethernet cord. Does anyone know if it's possible to scan something up there, but have the PDF save to my computer in the back of the office rather than the one it is connected to up front?

If it's connected via ethernet, and your computer is on the same network, then you should be able to install the printer on your computer and print/scan back and forth. Try these instructions, and see if you can get it installed: https://help.brother-usa.com/app/ans...945.1629735158

If that doesn't work, you'll need to get the IP address off the printer, and use that IP address to add the printer to your own computer. Basically get the IP, then at step g in the instructions above, select "Add a printer using TCP/IP address" and enter the IP of the printer.

Awesome! Thanks for taking the time to reply. I should've added that I can print back here on my computer already and it will come out up front. I just haven't figured out how to scan something and have it save on my computer rather than the one up front. I'll do some more research but appreciate the response.

For the bolded, navigate here and download the version for your OS: https://support.brother.com/g/b/down...700dw_us_eu_as

That will install the Brother Control Center software. Once that software is installed and the printer is installed, follow these instructions for scanning to your computer: https://support.brother.com/g/b/faqe...021#WinSetting
