Chiefs Settle Down: Look At The Chiefs Do When Games Really Count

We go through this every year. The team shits the bed in a nearly meaningless midseason game, and the board implodes. Some years it's defense, others it's Oline, this year it's our wide receivers.

Step back from your rage for a second. What has this team done over and over again when the lights shine the brightest?

They win almost every time.

The real season hasn't started yet. Trust the coaches and players who have won big games time and time again.

Just happens to be 2 of the best teams in the NFC when our players decided to hand over a game.

History tells us it probably won't happen in the playoffs.

Better to lose games to the NFC than the AFC.

If there comes to be a tiebreaker situation for seeding, the Chiefs are currently in excellent position to win based on conference record.

We still control our own destiny.

If we win out, we’re the #1 seed. We have a pretty favorable schedule so we’re in good shape there.

Ravens and Browns will beat up on each other. Dolphins have a pretty easy schedule like us but I think they’ve got another couple losses in them.

They don't have a clue what to do. If they did it would have happened after Denver embarrassment.
Did you see Reid after game presser?
Same speech after every game.

I agree to some extent, but the problems are centered around a problem we haven’t had in prior years - the WR group being one of the worst in the league. I’m not sure if the past bearing out “they’ll get it together” applies to this situation.

yeah, the big difference in prior years was: "hey, Tyreek has to stop letting passes bounce off his hands for an interception".

So yeah, it was easy for an all-pro to get better for the playoffs.

We're starting with turds.........and maybe you spray it off, spritz some cologne on them....polish them up........they're still turds.

I think this is where some of us have been the entire season. Trust in the process, trust in Reid, trust in Mahomes, and trust in the offense's development.

But that performance coming out of the bye is about as discouraging as one could get.

I think it would be silly to give up hope given that we have Mahomes and this defense, but there aren't signs that the offense's trajectory is headed in the right direction.

Hopefully the Raiders can be a get-right game in some respect.

Sure there are signs. Last night we had improvement against a good team. What is being lost in the shuffle is the fact that we were stellar on 3rd and 4th and short... STELLAR... I haven't rewatched the game having gotten back home so late, but there were at least 5 or 6 and we converted 100% of them. Thoney had a really good game. We ran the ball down a really good run defenses throat, even CEH had some good runs. It boiled down to a few plays. Mahomes pick on 1st down in the endzone, Kelce's fumble on first down in the red zone, Mahomes missing a wide open Kelce on a scramble to continue a drive, Watson dropping a ball on a 3rd down conversion, and the two holding penalties on pitchouts that seemed questionable that stopped drives. Drops and Turnovers this week, but guys were open, we did run the ball and we did convert on short yardage. If two of the 7 bad things above don't happen, we win by 2 scores and we are not even throwing that pass to "hands like a snake" MVS at the end of the game.

No reason to give up hope, but a lot of folks seem to think they can just grabass their way to a #1 seed and then "flip the switch" come January.

I've never seen the offense look this bad, so I have a hard time deciding if I think they can flip that switch or not - because they certainly aren't improving as the year goes on, they might be getting worse.

Did you see any improvement on separation and YAC last night? Did you see any improvement in the running game vs. the #1 rush defense? Did you see any improvement in our 3rd and short or 4th and short offense? We did a lot of things right last night that we haven't been doing. Do you realize that the Eagles are one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL?

That they were defending the run and daring the Chiefs to pass it deep?

Might want to consider those facts before you giddily celebrate the supposed separation Chiefs WR’s were getting from Philly defenders.

You’ve also never seen the defense look this good.

It’s a confusing season but good defenses are trumping good offenses across the board.

EDIT: not saying any of this in defense of the offense, to be clear. It’s been abysmal.
