Settle Down: Look At The Chiefs Do When Games Really Count

We go through this every year. The team shits the bed in a nearly meaningless midseason game, and the board implodes. Some years it's defense, others it's Oline, this year it's our wide receivers.

Step back from your rage for a second. What has this team done over and over again when the lights shine the brightest?

They win almost every time.

The real season hasn't started yet. Trust the coaches and players who have won big games time and time again.

Truth is it's virtually the same offense we had last year. The difference is last year's team got embarrassed by CIN in the AFCCG and this year's team won is the defending Super Bowl Champs. They're not bad, they're sloppy, and I think we can trust them to get it together in time before the the Playoffs start.
Last year's offense was #1 in the NFL Points per Game.

This year we are 15th.

Not even close.

But that performance coming out of the bye is about as discouraging as one could get.

I think it would be silly to give up hope given that we have Mahomes and this defense, but there aren't signs that the offense's trajectory is headed in the right direction.

Hopefully the Raiders can be a get-right game in some respect.
No reason to give up hope, but a lot of folks seem to think they can just grabass their way to a #1 seed and then "flip the switch" come January.

I've never seen the offense look this bad, so I have a hard time deciding if I think they can flip that switch or not - because they certainly aren't improving as the year goes on, they might be getting worse.

Did you see any improvement on separation and YAC last night? Did you see any improvement in the running game vs. the #1 rush defense? Did you see any improvement in our 3rd and short or 4th and short offense? We did a lot of things right last night that we haven't been doing. The drops are a problem, and the Mahomes and Kelce red zone turnovers, but we were struggling in other areas that got better.

If we can just have a little bit of getting right we can win the SB. That’s why it’s so frustrating

This loss helps us more than a win. We didn't NEED that game. (Eagles may have needed it a little more with DET playing so well.) We did need a wake up call, we needed to be embarrassed a little bit. Best to get that one in now.
Maybe on paper.

This is a defense first team. That has been clear even in KC's close wins.

Instead of relying on the offense running out the clock, the team is relying on the D preventing the other team from scoring in the last two minutes.

Yes, those were wins. But it is generally hard to lean so hard on D in the post season. The NFL rules generally favor the offense. So no, it wasn't just a knee jerk to one loss.

But if KC is going to win it all this year, the MVP is [probably] going to be the D.

In the playoffs, either your biggest strengths or biggest weaknesses come out.

If the defense appears, you guys win another SB. Or those WRs drop balls, AFCCG loss.

You’ve also never seen the defense look this good.

It’s a confusing season but good defenses are trumping good offenses across the board.

EDIT: not saying any of this in defense of the offense, to be clear. It’s been abysmal.

Do you realize that the Eagles are one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL?

That they were defending the run and daring the Chiefs to pass it deep?

Might want to consider those facts before you giddily celebrate the supposed separation Chiefs WR’s were getting from Philly defenders.
