*****2024 NFL DRAFT THREAD - NO SPOILERS*****

Version 2024 - PATRICK MAHOMES & THE HUNT FOR THE THREEPEAT

Let's ****ing do this.

Quote:
Rules for once the draft begins:
  1. No spoiled picks in this thread, all weekend. This means that as tweets are leaking picks a few minutes before the selection is announced live, you don't post it in this thread (ex: embedded tweets), reference it in this thread (ex: Joe Slapdick says it's So and So to Green Bay) or hint at it (ex: "it's a RB!").
  2. Don't be a dick.
Otherwise, have fun, talk shit, freak out and lose your goddamned minds. It's Draft Weekend. The hot takes in these threads are so funny. I'll also be starting player threads for each of our picks as they are made, with videos and notable stats/takes in the OP. These separate threads will be made as soon as the news breaks, outside of this thread. I will link the threads below. Pure knee-jerk gold to reference in the future.

Here are our picks:

Round 1, #28: Xavier Worthy
Round 2, #63: Kingsley Suamataia
Round 4, #131: Jared Wiley
Round 4, #133: Jaden Hicks
Round 5, #159: Hunter Nourzad
Round 6, #211: Kamal Hadden
Round 7, #248: C.J. Hanson

Here is a list of the prospects the Chiefs have shown interest in this year.

This.

I would gladly draft a guy like Paul or Kingsley in the 2nd round and have them battle it out in TC.

Using the Jimmy Johnson model.

Chiefs get: 28, 133, 248.

660+39.5+1 = 700.5

Bills get: 32, 95, 221.

590+120+3 = 713

Bills won the trade by 12.5 points, which is the equivalent of pick 200.

So technically, it’s a good trade for the Bills. They basically created the equivalent of a 6th round pick out of thin air.

That said, if I were a Bills fan, **** that. Not helping the Chiefs or even taking the chance that I might help the Chiefs. That’s a good trade with any other franchise, but I better rip the Chiefs off badly if I’m entertaining a deal with them.

Unless of course you intend to pick someone that is shitty and you won't use the 5th year option. I guess that could be their approach.
I was expecting them to be trying to get Bryan Thomas Jr. Once that failed they panicked.

The Bills did the opposite of what everyone was expecting and I think they were smart for it. They ended up ****ing up the trades though. Not sure why they kept doing pick for pick trades instead of accumulating more picks....but whatever.

They weren't one WR away from winning the SB.

Feels like Buffalo was trying to consolidate more draft capital into the 50-100 range.

And I was actually on board with that plan as well if the Chiefs wanted to do it.

I really don't think Buffalo did poorly here at all. I don't think Worthy was on their radar (their WR room is too small) and I think Mitchell was probably the WR they wanted from this chunk of guys all along. So they'll probably still get their guy and in the process they'll have gotten more of their draft capital moved into the 'meat' of this draft. There's a lot of value to be find in the 50-100 range, IMO. And that's where they seemed to be targeting as well.

Buffalo did fine here. It wouldn't surprise me at all to see them take pick 128 and 141 (from the Panthers deal) and try to use those to get up to the 110 range.

So at that point they'll have taken pick 28 and used it to push two more picks up/near the top 100 from far deeper in the round. There's still work for them to do, but as it presently stands I think they've had a successful draft in a vacuum.

If nothing else you have a Niang replacement as a developmental guy.

Because that guy's simply not done a damn thing. And I really do think it's a mindset issue with him. He appears to just keep getting fatter. He's falling down the depth chart and from what I can tell he's done nothing to address that. Appears to be content marking time on his rookie deal and eventually just bouncing around practice squads for a couple years.

I don't get how he hasn't come into camp 30 lbs lighter or something by now. Guy has to try SOMETHING to make himself relevant and doesn't seem compelled to do so.

Not sure if it happens like this but I wonder if they had conversations with the Panthers about that 32 pick before they traded with us. They knew they wanted out of the first and the Panthers wanted in for Leggette. Take less value with the Chiefs to get that last pick and then trade it to the Panthers.

Now you get your guy at the top of day 2 and more value like you said. They weren't going to get that staying at 28.

Not sure what it would take but if you could get Paul or Kingsley...it would be an A+ pick.

If neither Morris or either of those guys grab the job, then bring in Donovan Smith at the end of TC. You know he's at least sufficient for the beginning of the year while you get either of the young guys up to speed as fast as you can.

Our 2nd this year plus 2nd next year should be able to get us to around 40 through 43. In that range it would look to be Washington that's most likely to look to be accumulating capital.

If Kingsley is there at 40 and we could get up there to get him with that 2nd next season, I'm pretty sure I pull that trigger.

EDIT: The PFF draft simluator is over-valuing our future 2 by quite a bit, but it lets me send 64 and next year's 2 for 40 and 100. No chance we manage that, but it suggests that 64 and '25 R2 should be able to get us to 40 if the right guy is there.

And I could be convinced to do that for either Kingsley, DeJean or Newton. Otherwise I'm probably sitting tight until around pick 55 when I may start thinking about getting up there for Amegadjie or maybe Ja'tavion Sanders just for giggles?

I'd just sign a vet LT and kick that can down the road. I'm not sure either of those guys really develop into long term answers.

Becomes a scouting question really.

Are these guys any more/less likely to be developmental OT assets than anyone we'd get in similar spots next season?

Or are we any more likely to move up to 15 and take a safer OT next season?

I hear the OT class is supposed to be awfully good again next season and maybe that's the right play. You hold those future assets and when next season comes along, you get aggressive and make your move then after re-signing Smith for this year.

But man, it sure would suck to have a couple of badass downfield WRs and then never have the time to get them the ball because your LT situation is shattered ass. And when Smith went down (and he'll almost certainly go down again at some point next season) it was pretty close to shattered ass.
