Life Carmax seems overpriced - do you haggle them? - Page 4

Jut started looking for a third family car the teens can drive and ding up.

Looking at 2008 Honda civic 4-door with around 100,000 miles.

There's a few on craigslist from private parties and independent dealers for around $6,000. Car max wants $9,999 for a very similar/same car with similar options.

Their "no haggle price." I thought they were supposed to be a good deal.

What gives?

Chevy 2500 Dutamax Ltz. I haul often and it does a nice job. Chevy’s have an exhaust brake which the other companies do not have. I had just rotated my tires before trading in A ‘16 with 75k Miles and the brakes were in great shape. The exhaust brake really saves a lot of friction brake punishment.

Great trucks, but I want to punch the guy who designed the tailgate handle/lock. It’s a mother ****ing piece of shit.

If you can find a car to buy that is coming off a 3 year 30,000-36,000 mile lease that is UNDER or AT the mileage, you will make out like a bandit BUT most used car dealers LOVE to buy these cars. They are perfectly kept, have warranties and the owner took a beating on the depreciation.

Repo cars are the worst as owners beat them up and know they are on the verge of losing them.

I always wax and change the oil in my cars before they get repoed. Sometimes i even throw a little Armor All on the dash.

I always feel like I got a decent deal. But then my wife and I have started to walk out on more than one occasion before they talked us into coming back. But I also know the value of these vehicles before I go in to look. I may not exactly feel like I was an expert negotiator but I sure as heck know that I won't allow myself to get screwed.

On the flip side, our parents will just go in and pay the sticker price.

Although I will say that I was proud that my FIL actually didn't do that this last time a year or so ago. And he walked away with a pretty good price. I was shocked considering he bought it here in Topeka. This city is usually impossible to get a decent deal on a car. I nearly always end up going to KC.

What's your point? To mock people buying used cars?

Why you don't you give some advice on how to get the best deal? That seems like something a decent dude would do, instead of talking s**t on everyone in this thread that think they actually did a decent job of negotiating a price.

Your attitude makes car dealers seem like shysters (which we already knew they were).

Yeah it works, don't even lie and say it doesn't. Your whole job is to make sure people are happy to get cars sold. You don't get paid for just being there you get paid to sell ****ing cars.

Well...if I can't lie, I wouldn't be much of a car salesman...{rolls eyes}. It's all just a game...and "we will walk" is just an over used, over aged ploy. And professional salesmen know it.
