Some of the guys on Locked on Chiefs podcast speculating we could be stuck with Sutton. Most of the big name guys with DC on their resume already signed somewhere else and the Chiefs love a lot of their position coaches, hard to bring in a new DC and tell him that he can't change many of the position coaches.

Chiefs apparently truly believe its a personnel issue more than a scheme issue, they are stuck with the inadequate scheme because of the personnel.

If the Chiefs truly believe it’s a personnel issue instead of scheme than who gets fired for shitty drafting and free agent signings?

At least that scenario saves me a ton of money next year in parking and tickets.

I've tried to post this 3 times now, is the site sucking today or something?

If they bring Sutton back they are a loser organization as people have said, there is no defending it anymore. You could hire a position coach from a good D and sell that better, they need a scheme change badly.

Also if it is a personnel issue someone needs to tell me how Hitchens and Fuller were well regarded players until they got here...it's like this team takes good players and makes them suck.

Look, Reid the O-Coord got out-coached plain and simple. People want to conveniently forget that BB is one of this league's best defensive minds and it's obvious as all hell that he worked non-stop to come up with a strategy that would counter just about everything Reid could throw at him.

It is what it is.

And I'm glad that it exposed the weaker elements of the offense because that gives us a fantastic assessment of what needs to be fixed going forward.

This defense needs a general change, they were a bunch of finesse guys who want to get sacks that do freelance things that cause problems. Also the old guard needs to go, Houston and Berry are overpaid players that aren't close to what they once were.
We've given way too many second contracts on the D side. I don't think that's a good strategy -- seems that defenders don't typically age all that well. I think it's time to do what the Saints did a few years ago -- blow it all up and go young.

I would definitely NOT come back for a third helping of Sutton's ass.

he gots to go.

Also-I think that ditching the 3-4 is just something that should be done. When everyone ran a 4-3, running a 3-4 was a smart move as those 'tweener' type lb'ers were plentiful and undervalued. Now that half of the league runs a 3-4 that's not true anymore. I'd think about tagging and trading Ford, switching to a 4-3 and having Speaks play DE at about 280. Houston put his hand in the dirt at RDE at about 260. Maybe Kpass would be reasonably decent at his natural position. Definitely draft DE and DT. Hitchens, O'Daniel and a FA LB. Still need a S, and a starting CB.

Then you fire Sutton and promote from within. This defense needs a new voice. And if they suck again next season....then you clear out the entire defense and start over. Simplify the scheme.

Yep and add Spagnuolo in a senior defense asst role or even DC if the guys promoting within aren’t quite ready. Spags beat the pats twice in the SB with the giants. They could do much worse

Seems like the only other option to keeping Bob around to me, although if you promote from within do you think much changes? Hard to tell.
