The 49ers have expressed to others that a deal for QB Alex Smith is effectively complete. Can't be finalized til league year begins 3/12

Jason La Canfora ‏@JasonLaCanfora

so it's not official, both clubs view it at as it's effectively done. I do not know the other team. KC and JAX are 2 teams that make sense

He ran 4.53 at the Combine and was hurt. Thats verifiable fact.

Whether he is any faster than that...who can say?

Why are you scared to take a rookie quarterback, Frankie? All Geno has done is mirror RGIII's numbers his senior year, minus his rushing numbers, and mirrored his workout numbers at the combine, minus his 40 time.

Why do you think that is a player this team doesn't need?

Wait...so now Geno is RGIII?

If he really were RGIII, there would be no shortage of trade parners for the Chiefs and they would push them all aside and start working on his contract immediately.

Come on now.

True fans:

Would rather take a "Safe" QB and play for being good enough to win the division with practically no shot at winning in the playoffs unless all stars align than be wrong about a guy who can be a franchise QB.

Gotta love it.

As for me, I'd rather take a chance with Geno, suck for 2-3 more years, and try again on a QB. The Chiefs aren't going to win a Super Bowl without a true franchise QB, and the only way you get those these days is if you draft one.

I'd trade 20 seasons of 9-7 - 11-5 (even with a few 12-4/13-3 seasons where the schedule lined up perfectly) and never making it past the second round of the playoffs for ONE Super Bowl win.

Their respective numbers from their senior years are extremely close, minus Geno's rushing yards/touchdowns.

Their respective numbers from the combine are extremely close, minus their 40 times.

Why in the blue **** would we not want a quarterback with that kind of potential on this team?

...and what's the point of even mentioning their numbers if you aren't comparing them as players?

He was advocating drafting him at one and said his numbers were like RGIIIs.

What other reason is there to do that?

I really hope he ends up in Arizona. I just don't see him getting traded within the division if there are other suitors....

Who knows.....

If the Cardinals offer them a 3rd and everyone else is offering a 4th.....they'd be stupid to take any other offer but the Cards.

I never said you shouldn't want him...I just don't think he should be the first overall pick.

Look...I get what you guys are saying. You want "your guy". Even if he ends up sucking, there is a CHANCE for greatness there because there is an unknown. Alex represents the "known". You want a shot at that once in a generation talent and not another retread.

I totally get it.

i just don't think Geno is that guy. It seems alot of GMs agree with me. The only place I see him billed as the savior is this forum.

I didn't say that.

At this point, give me Alex Smith for a 4th rounder or below, or Foles for that and I'm a happy camper. Provided we can somehow trade down the top pick and pick up extra picks. I know the latter is not likely, but who knows? I think when it comes to QBs Andy Reid will know what he is doing, a lot better than the collective body of the posters here. If AR thinks that's a better scenario I defer to him comfortably. If he thinks Geno has definite high ceiling and wants to draft him at 1, then more power to him. Either way it's OK. I just have a feeling that he and Dorsey prefer the trades.

Proof. What GM's have said specifically that Geno is not the #1 pick?
