Also, the turnover machine Pettiford is where you'd expect as well.

Wilson has hit a bit of a wall, maybe due to over-usage. His eFG is 39.5%, which would be 65th out of 66 P5 schools (only Cal as a team has a lower eFG). Part of it is we are limited offensively so he needs to force some stuff but still.

We even see transfers take about a half a season to adjust to the system and get in a groove. McCullar and Remy Martin are good examples. It’s even harder on a freshman.

He really couldve benefited from playing time against the “easy” opponents.
Hope Rice sticks around too yeah (there's clearly talent there) but I'm not expecting it after this year.

When Dick is on from 3, this is a national championship team (at least this year it is). We look so damn good when he’s hitting.

What’s everyone’s Bill Self Kansas All Defensive Team?

I got:

Chalmers
Garrett
McCullar
Withey
Doke

Point guard was tough. We have some great candidates there. Russell Robinson, Dajuan Harris, and even Graham was really good before we kind of overused him.

I went Chalmers, because I think he really frustrated teams and we saw that it wasn’t just a college thing. I’m pretty sure he set the Heat record for steals in a game as a rookie.

Any list that doesn't include Russ is erroneous. Sorry

Chalmers is second in steals all time in Kansas history, despite only playing 3 season.

He has like 35 more than Robinson.

We forget how good Chalmers was. Defensively especially.

Chalmers has 3 of the top 6 all time steals totals for a season in program history

Not disputing Chalmers inclusion.

Doke over Embiid????

Doke had 80 blocks his senior year. Embiid had 72 in 3 less games. Embiid had 25 steals, to Doke's 15.

Close......

A healthy Embiid is so much more athletic away from the basket if the the other team had a big that could shoot threes for instance.

Doke would refuse to even go out and guard away from the basket...

I struggled with center a bit.

I could see an argument for Embiid for sure. Doke was just such a load in the paint. It was almost possible to get position on him.

I also almost went Aldrich. He was incredible too.

I'd probably go Chalmers, R. Robinson, Garrett, Embiid, and Withey (kind of cheating by taking 2 Cs, but both were too good not to include).

I think Chalmers is easily the best guard/wing defender we've ever had under Self. Maybe the best defender period. He started and played 30+ minutes a game for two NBA championship teams as well and that certainly wasn't because of his offense.

Some notable defensive seasons by DBPM over the last 15 seasons (the earliest I could find anybody tracking it):

2008 Chalmers 6.8 DBPM
2012 Withey 6.8 DBPM
(2023 Udeh 6.8 DBPM in very limited minutes)
2014 Embiid 6.4 DBPM
2013 Withey 6.3 DPBM
2008 R Robinson 5.5 DBPM
2016 Traylor 5.4 DBPM
2010 Aldrich 5.2 DBPM
2011 Withey 4.8 DBPM
2020 Udoka 4.8 DBPM
2020 Garrett 4.7 DBPM
2023 McCullar 4.5 DBPM
2009 Aldrich 4.5 DBPM
2021 Harris 4.1 DBPM
2021 Garrett 3.9 DBPM
