I don't think so. I read over the cap instead of sportrac though
https://overthecap.com/salary-cap/kansas-city-chiefs edit: nevermind I refreshed and it does jump. If he's cut post june 1 the Chiefs save 2.85 but still have over $15m in dead money. edit 2: nope! see below |

No damn, I was right the first time.
If you cut him post June 1 it jumps but that's if you are looking at 2018. If you are looking at 2019 it is 1.5m both before and after June 1. So yeah, you can't cut Berry. |

Also the Chiefs are going to have 46m in cap space BEFORE anyone is cut.

Houston might very well take the paycut, as he would see how close this team is to a super bowl. The paycut would be in the form of an extension, which could convert his salary to signing bonus with low payouts the next two years. If I could get Houston for like $8M a year for three years, I'd probably do it.
You simply can't cut berry until after next season, unless you honestly feel like he's not even worth a roster spot. |

I think their first rd pick is going to be an OLB or interior rusher. Can’t let Houston and Bailey walk without reloading.

The Chiefs cap space issues next year are simply non-existent, even if Petro keeps talking about it like it's a thing. It's not a thing. |

Is this the worst contract we've seen? I certainly can't remember one worse...

None of which matters without a new defensive coordinator, unfortunately. When highly heralded players like Hitchens come here and instantly suck it's clear that nothing will improve without coaches who can get the most out of their players within the system.

after this season is the year to load up in FA though and plug holes for a run. Anything we can do to increase space will help. Might be smart to jump out in front of Hill and Hunt perhaps too and extend before they're super expensive. |

I get it, we have to re-sign Hill and Jones. BFD. Their cap hits will almost certainly be low in the first year. 2020 we have $51M in cap space, and that's with Houston counting $19M against the cap with a $1M dead cap number, so...
He gone. You're going to have $70M in cap space in 2020 when Houston is off this team, and that's with Berry still being here. You could sign Hill and Jones to massive contracts with $25M cap numbers each in 2020, and there would still be 20M of cap space. It's simply not going to be a problem. People keep acting like we have all this DOrsey dead cap money, and ALL THAT SHIT IS OFF THE BOOKS AFTER THIS SEASON. |

Another thing to consider is that letting Ford walk will almost assuredly net us another 3rd round comp pick. |
