Help me choose an NBA team

NBA is popular. I don't start watching until the conference finals because I don't have a team to follow. I want to choose a team. I don't want to be a front runner, so no Golden State or Lakers. Don't really want a west coast team because their games don't get over until midnight here. Doesnt feel right rooting for a northeastern team, so no Knicks, Nets, Celtics, 76ers.

I'd like to be able to go to a home game of the team without flying. I am in Southern Illinois. The cities I go to most (Nashville, St. Louis, KC) don't have teams.

I've narrowed it down to a few teams, so what do you think

You’re in Chambana iirc?

If so the Pacers seem like a no brainer

I’m a Hawks fan, grew up with the Bulls but living in Atlanta and being able to see every game makes it a lot more fun. It looks like they’re building well right now, maybe they’ll have something soon?

Who is on locally for you all the time?

Same here. I was a giant Jordan guy. Like huge. Then he retired and I didn’t watch a game for probably 5 years. I fully acknowledge LeBrons greatness but just can’t seem to find it compelling. At least in the regular season.
That would be my pick too. Enough talent to have a shot. Enough of a feel good story to root for them. Unlike Milwaukee, their stars will probably be there a while. Plus it's cool to see a team build from the ground up instead of using money to build a super team.

Top 5 colors.

Play in one of the nicest arenas in the league.

Don’t forget the Sabonis kid. O how I used to love watching his old man, the big guy pass. Too bad he didn’t join NBA right away.

I think that unless you're some soulless bandwagon idiot you don't pick teams to root for as an adult - you root for the teams you've always rooted for.

I couldn't even bring myself to root for the Rams after they won a Super Bowl in St. Louis. I did try. Unless I threw it away at some point, I've got a Warner jersey in a box in the basement that I think I wore once.

I have become a half-assed Bears fan over the decades that I've lived up here, since they're in a different conference than the Chiefs and only play them once every four years. But it's a mild interest at best.

I'll help.

Where did you grow up?

Okay, now find a map. Draw a line to the nearest city that has an NBA team.

That's your NBA team.

Man up and follow the Bulls. When they finally get their shit together you will be a legit fan after all the suffering.

Rooting for the Nuggets from Illinois just because they're good is unforgivable.

After the Kings left Kansas City, I didn't have a team for a while until the next expansion. Out of the four teams added, I decided to follow Minnesota.

Not necessarily a great choice, but it was a choice.

Still, not a huge NBA fan, but I do keep track of it every so often and hope eventually, Minni will pull off a good season, but I "committed" to them, so I'm not going to dump them for another team now.

As a Bulls/Chiefs fan, I say Bulls!

Our front office sucks outside of drafting fairly well, and our owner refuses to do anything about it.

But because they do a decent job drafting, we finally have some good young pieces and are a superstar away from being a legit threat in the East. If this LA/NO trade pushes Garland down to #7, it’ll be very interesting.

No idea why the Phoenix Suns aren't on your list.

Building a dynasty here shortly. Plus you can see games year round here with no delays or mess ups in travel plans from snow.
