Teams are just about given no choice on things like this. There aren't that many good QBs. It's either do this or end up in purgatory.

If Brees retires, the list of true SB winning QBs in the league who are threats is getting short. Brady, Mahomes, Wilson and Rodgers... Big Ben if you're being generous, but he looked completely washed at the end of the year. Flacco and Foles are backups.

That's four guys in the whole league who are legit proven winners still playing at a high level. And Brady and Rodgers are running out of time.

This is EXACTLY what I've saying for the last year. Once the Broadcast deals are completed, people will be blown away by the Salary Cap numbers.

Average QBs now will make at a minimum 28-30 mill a season. An above average one could snatch in the 35-40 range like Dak. Fans of other teams were making fun of the Chiefs for giving so much money to Mahomes. Little did they realize that their shitty QBs will end up costing too, a lot more.

Seems to be a trend that already built teams are giving huge short-term deals heavily front-loaded. 4 years seems to be the sweet spot. I mean, what are they going to do, cut Dak even though they have some special talent in guys like Zeke, Ceedee Lamb, Zack Martin? They're stuck between a rock and a hard place. Team pays a shitload upfront, player gets paid a shitload of guaranteed money, team has flexibility early in the contract to move on. Which again shows how unique and cool it is to have our QB locked down for 10 years.
