810 Just said someone got murderd outside Arrowhead
Police: Man who died at Arrowhead was in a vehicle similar to one he arrived in
December 3 BY CHRISTINE VENDEL The Kansas City Star A Smithville man who was found in someone else’s Jeep and then died in a struggle outside Arrowhead Stadium Sunday had gone to the game in a similar vehicle that was parked nearby, police said Tuesday. The Jeep also showed no signs of a break-in, leading police to believe it may have been left unlocked when Kyle Van Winkle, 30, climbed in and sat down. Police released the additional details Tuesday as they continued to investigate what led to the death of Van Winkle, who had attended the Chiefs game against the Denver Broncos with relatives. Detectives planned to interview relatives Tuesday to determine when they last saw him inside the stadium. Police were called to Lot A of the Truman Sports Complex about 5:20 p.m. Sunday on a disturbance. Witnesses told police the Jeep owner had returned to his vehicle with his son, who is about 10 years old, when they realized a stranger was inside. The boy summoned help from several tail-gaters and they engaged in a struggle with Van Winkle, who had been sitting in the Jeep. Van Winkle collapsed and later died at a hospital. Police did not say how Van Winkle died, but they said his body bore no signs of obvious injury. Officers arrested three men shortly after the death, but they had to track down the fourth man who was arrested. Police searched one man’s home in Independence on Monday. Detectives released three of the men Monday night and the fourth man Tuesday morning, pending further investigation. The death of a man who had apparently climbed into the wrong car in the Arrowhead Stadium parking lot during a Chiefs game Sunday has been ruled a homicide, police said Wednesday.
Kyle Van Winkle, 30, of Smithville, was counted as the 100th homicide of the year, the same number logged on the same date last year. The medical examiner’s office did not provide a cause of death, but told police that the manner of death would be ruled homicide, meaning the death was caused by the hands of another. The ruling does not necessarily mean murder charges will be filed. Homicides can be justified, considered self defense or charged as voluntary or involuntary manslaughter. Police are still investigating. When they are finished, they will present their findings to prosecutors, who will decide whether to file criminal charges. Van Winkle, who was attending the game with his father and a group of friends and relatives, told his father he was going to the restroom in the first quarter of the game against the Denver Broncos. But he never returned to his seat. Instead, he walked into the parking lot for unknown reasons and got into an apparently unlocked green Jeep that was similar to a vehicle in his tailgating convoy. The Jeep also was parked in the same row where his group had parked earlier, but just about 10 vehicles closer to the stadium. When the Jeep owner returned to the vehicle and found Van Winkle sleeping inside, the owner tried to get him out. The owner’s 10-year-old son summoned help from bystanders who were watching the game in the parking lot. The bystanders — but not the vehicle owner — struggled with Van Winkle, who later collapsed and lost consciousness. He died at a hospital. Police arrested four men who were reportedly involved in the struggle, one of whom declined to talk to detectives. Police released them pending further information. Detectives are looking for any witnesses who have not yet talked to police. Anyone with information should call the homicide unit at 816-234-5043. Bizarre story.
So KVW tells his dad he's going to the bathroom and ends up going into the parking lot. He goes to the approximate location of his vehicle and goes into a vehicle that looks like one from his caravan that happens to be unlocked. He falls asleep and is found by the vehicle owners who happen to be leaving the game early. The 10 year old summons help and bystanders who have nothing to do with the whole thing kill him? Just weird all around. |

This may be a lesson in the use of deadly force. You better be darn sure that it's a criminal you're using it against.

The other key is that they'll be wearing a black mask and will be carrying a big bag with a dollar sign on it.

I did once. It was many years ago and I had a tan Toyota Celica. I was leaving work in a driving, freezing rain, and I ran ran ran out to the employee parking lot, opened the door and jumped into my tan Toyota Celica. Then I thought, "Why does my dashboard have carpeting on it?" and jumped back out. My car was about 50 feet away.
