New Mexico to replace Columbus Day with Indigenous Peoples’ Day

SANTA FE — New Mexico would replace Columbus Day with Indigenous Peoples’ Day under legislation that passed the Senate on a 22-15 vote Friday.

The legislation, House Bill 100, was already approved in the House, so it will move next to Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham.

Democratic Reps. Derrick Lente of Sandia Pueblo and Andrea Romero of Santa Fe jointly sponsored the proposal, and Sen. Benny Shendo Jr., D-Jemez Pueblo, presented the bill on the Senate floor.

Supporters said changing the name of the holiday — celebrated on the second Monday of October — would better reflect New Mexico’s culture.

Native Americans make up more than 12 percent of New Mexico’s total population, according to 2017 U.S. Census data.

New Mexico would become the fourth state to do away with Columbus Day, joining South Dakota, Hawaii and Oregon.

You like getting another holiday but consider it bullshit sound like something a lazy leftist would say. If you had any integrity you'd honor your words and go to work anyway.

Only reason for the attack on Columbus day, like so much currently, is because he's a white European and the indigenous people are people of color. The left wants to destroy western civilization because it's white and this is just one part of getting it done. Meanwhile, we must live like primitive tribes who practiced collectivism of sorts in a green world devoid of modern comforts from modern science and technology. ( mostly discovered and/or developed by white men and brought to markets by entrepreneurial businessmen.)

Right, enjoying a day off work is something only Alinskyite Marxists do. Real Americans cheerfully show up to work at 6AM on a Saturday.

We lament history and we can be ashamed of ourselves as a civilization, but you have to open to the boundary of linear time and be grateful for our lives. If history does not unfold exactly as it did, then it's possible that ones life might not exist.
