Patrick Mahomes makes ESPN’s list of 20 most dominant athletes in the world

GARBAGE

http://www.espn.com/espn/feature/sto...-athletes-2018

Quote:
PATRICK MAHOMES

NFL, USA

DOMINANCE RATING: 0.829

There has simply never been a quarterback as prolific, this early in his career, as Mahomes. He is the only player in NFL history with more than 3,000 passing yards and 30 TDs in his first 12 games.

Among the active crop of Canton-bound QBs -- Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees, Ben Roethlisberger, even Eli Manning -- none broke even 2,000 yards or amassed 20 TDs. (Each has at least 40,000 yards and 330 passing TDs now.)

Mahomes' 115.2 passer rating is 4.2 points above second-place Kurt Warner. He could become the second player to throw for 5,000 yards and 50 TDs in a season ... and he's only 23. --Dan Hajducky

I'm fine with empowering women and minorities. I'm more than skeptical, however, that whoever put this list together had a colorblind and genderblind approach, which is really all I'm asking for.

All that said, I should even bother (though not for the reasons you're thinking, I'm sure). In my view many of the "athletes" on the list aren't even playing sports as I define it. I care as much about who utterly dominates figure skating or golf as i do darts, pool, or poker.

Yeah, I'll be honest. I only recognized 6 names on that list. And, name recognition didn't sink in until I was 13 names in.

Then you have such an insanely narrow view of sport as to not really be relevant to this discussion. I mean, I rarely watch figure skating even during the Olympics, but of course it's a sport. How in god's name do you "define" sports, then?

I like Simone Biles, but there's no way she converts that 4th and 9.

James Harden was probably the worst player on the court in his only Finals appearance.

Until the Warriors fall apart, he will never get passed them in the playoffs. Last year was his best chance.

Get him off this list.

The inclusion of Harden, Brees, and Betts was offensive. I'm fine with women being on the list though.

Edit: On the list there are 13 men, 6 women, and 1 horse. Why are people freaking about it ? Men still dominated the list. Was it just that a woman got first place? I don't get it. 2 out of the top 3 are still men.

Talking about Harden and some others that have choked in the playoffs, what if Mahomes is one of those athletes that actually does markedly better come playoff time? I always think about him playing just as well, but what if he actually unleashes the fury of hell in the post season?! At this point, I’m not even sure what that would look like, but could you imagine?
