Just some numbers

So I was bored so I spent a little time putting together some numbers. I broke down the numbers on O and D. When I did the numbers for the O, I broke it down into the games with Hunt and games without Hunt. I also did the same numbers for the offense except I didn't break it down into time with Hunt and time without him. Seemed a little pointless, but I can if you want.

So here are the numbers for the offense -

# of drives - 148
scoring drives and percent - 80 scoring & 54%
TDs from our offense and percent - 59 tds & 40%
# FGs and percent - 21 fgs & 14%

Then the break down for with K Hunt and without K Hunt.

W/ Hunt

Drives - 119
Scoring drives and percent - 64 scoring & 54%
TD drives and percent - 47 tds & 40%
FG drives and percent - 17 fgs & 14%

W/O Hunt

Drives - 29
Scoring drives and percents - 16 scoring & 55%
TD drives and percents - 12 TDs & 41%
FG drives and percents - 4 fgs & 14 %

Numbers by half

In the 1st half of games the Chiefs have had;

69 Drives
45 Scores/65% score rate
30 TDs/43% TD rate
15 FG/22% FG rate

The numbers definitely change during the 2nd half. You can tell we have gotten the ball first in the 2nd half alot. We've had;

81 drives
35 scores/43% score rate
29 TDs/36% TD rate
6 FGs/7% FG rate

The number do show that we slow down on O in the 2nd half of games or teams are adjusting to slow us down, but I'm sure all teams would show that if they consistently have the lead. People can complain all they want but there is no way to keep the pace of the 1st half into the 2nd half. If we did that then we'd already have the 3rd most points ever scored and would be 30 points away from breaking the all time record.

Full defensive numbers

145 Total Drives
64 Total Scores/44%
44 Total TD/30%
20 Total FG/14%
22 Total Turnovers/15%

And here are the numbers broken down by half

1st Half

70 Drives
29 Scores/41%
20 TDs/29%
9 FGs/13%
8 TOs/11

2nd Half

75 Drives
35 Scores/47%
24 TDs/32%
11 FGs/15%
14 TOs/19%

So I'm sure no one is surprised by these numbers when it comes to the D, they seem to always play pretty decent in the first half, but totally fall to shit in the second half. One thing that I have noticed and what I found to be true is on our opponents first drive of the 1st half, our D has stopped them 11/14 times, good for 79% of the time. Things change dramatically in the second half, on the opponents first drive of the second game the D has stopped the opponent only 7 out of 14 times, good for a lousy 50% of the time.

If I were to guess I'd say that Bobby need to works on making adjustments at half time, but you cant really hold it against him. You never know what the other teams O is going to do when they come out of the half, so it is pretty difficult to make those adjustments when you don't know what exactly your adjusting to.

Could be a few mistakes in there, but it should be good. I was just curious about the numbers and put a little time into it, so I decided to share it all with you. I didn't want it to feel like a waste of time. So eat shit if you're going to come in here and talk shit.

Well I thought this years numbers were so interesting, so I wanted to see how that compared to last years numbers. Some real big surprises in there lol.

So to no ones surprise this offense is wayyyy wayyy better when it has Patrick Mahomes behind center instead of Alex, so lets take a look how Alex did last year running the Chiefs;

2017 Offense

Drives -171
Scoring drives and percents - 80 scoring drives and 47%
Td Drives and percents - 39 TD drives and 23%
FG Drives and percents - 41 FG drives and 24%

Differences between 2017 and 2018

Scoring Drives % - +7% in 2018
TD Drive % - +17% in 2018
FG Drive % - +10% in 2017

Now I'd like for some people see this and no longer say that Alex ran this offense anywhere close to as good as Patrick Mahomes does. I have seen that as an argument as to why Mahomes isn't the MVP. "Oh Mahomes isn't doing anything special, Alex was able to run this offense just as good!" How the hell do you have more FGs than you do TDs. God, Alex was a shitfest.

Two of the three games without Hunt were against two top 10 defenses, including arguably the best defense in the NFL (Ravens).

In the one game not against a top 10 defense (Raiders) the Chiefs had a season high in rushing yardage.

Very nice. I've known that our 2nd D is worse. Could also be a conditioning thing. That's why I'd like to see more rookies mixed in with the starters. You can't tell me that kpass can't add to the mix. He did well vs the Ravens and kept the QB in check. Would like to see him mirror Wilson this week.

Good work. Thanks.

It’s been many moon since I’ve had a statistics course but I’d be willing to bet the difference between Hunt and non-Hunt are not statistically significant. But even so I’m surprised that they are that close.

It just goes to show that RB doesnt matter if you have an elite QB. Teams should never give out monster contracts to RBs. I'd say Hunt wax the 2nd or 3rd best back in the league and we lost him and havent skipped a beat even against the number 1 and 9 defense. Everyone wants to act like our O isnt as good as it was and thats completely wrong.

So here is what those stats look like on a game by game view.
Drives/Score #/Score%/Td #/Td %/Fg #/Fg %/D Rank
Week 1 Chargers - 11/5/45%/4/36%/1/9%/9th
Week 2 Steelers - 12/6/50%/6/50%/0/0%/15th
Week 3 49ers - 9/6/67%/5/56%/1/11%/26th
Week 4 Broncos - 10/5/50%/3/30%/2/20%/10th
Week 5 Jags - 11/5/45%/2/18%/3/27%/6th
Week 6 Pats - 11/8/73%/4/36%/4/36%/13th
Week 7 Bengals - 9/6/67%/5/56%/1/9%/31st
Week 8 Broncos - 11/5/45%/4/36%/1/9%/10th
Week 9 Browns - 9/6/67%/5/56%/1/11%/22nd
Week 10 Cardinals - 11/5/45%/3/27%/2/18%/25th
Week 11 Rams - 15/7/47%/6/40%/1/7%/20th
Week 12 Bye-
Week 13 Raiders - 11/7/64%/5/45%/2/11%/32nd
Week 14 Ravens - 10/5/50%/3/30%/2/20%/1st
Week 15 Chargers - 8/4/50%/4/50%/0/0%/9th

As you can see our Offense is just fine. Just kinda sucks that we only had the ball 8 times against the Chargers, if our D could have kept them off the field we would have scored more and won.

Its crazy to me that our lowest scoring percentage in a game is 45%. Some teams would kill to have that for a season. Also it drives me nuts that anyone is going to act like it Mahomes fault we lost any of the games we've lost, especially the Pats. I just cant believe that some people expected us to score on more than 73% of our drives. Who cares he threw a couple of picks, that loss is directly on the Defense.

I dont know if this really means anything, but the avg rank of our opponents scoring D is 14th. It just seems to me that our offense has played quality defense and has continually produced. We really only had one game that the offense had an average game and that was against the Jags. If you look back at the 2013 Denver Broncos, the highest scoring offense and the team with Manning who threw for 55 tds(NFL record), the average rank of their opponents D was 18th. Then the 2007 Patriots, the 2nd highest scoring offense of all time and the team with Brady the only other QB to throw for 50 TDs in a season, the average rank of their opponents D was 16. The Chiefs need to just avg 31 pts a game to get into 2nd place all time in scoring offense and we have played tougher defenses than the top 2 teams, so what I'm saying is this may be the greatest offense of all time.

There isnt a running back on earth that should get more than a couple million a year. Its probably the least important position in football.

I disagree. If you’ve got a shitty QB you need a guy that can do some stuff on his own. Hell even if you’ve got a dink and dunk guy I’d pay more than a couple mil for a guy that can make people miss.

And Bell is the best of the bunch.

But if you’ve got a QB that can pull guys out of the box, you start losing value on premier talent vs what a cheap guy can do.

I’d prolly pay Bell 3/15 or maybe 4/18 to come here. But I’m not paying him 20 per or whatever he’s wanting. Bell is a hell of a back. But you’re right, on this team 5 per is probably dumb. Even for Bell

That's what I meant to say. No elite QB needs a RB.

I actually ran the numbers on Hunt/wo Hunt yesterday and we're averaging 5.9 yards per play without him, vs 7.0 with him.

And yet...scoring remains constant.

I wonder if it's a function of not having him, or just the defenses we've played...
