Has your grocery shopping changed with rising prices?

We know food prices are rising fast. Have you changed what/where you buy?

Have you moved from beef to pork to chicken?

Do you substitute items that you used to buy for something else?

Just curious, Stewie

Ok so if it is solely based on the pandemic and supply issues it will surely go back down yes? Lets see if it does that.....

Not a chance in hell.

Nope. It doesn't work that way. Never has. But it is what it is. It's not indigenous to the US.

Grocery shopping is the accessible and guilt free luxury of our age. Things I buy many times a year that weren’t available at a typical midwestern grocery store when I was growing up in the ‘70s:

Fresh ginger
Sushi
Chipotle peppers
Avocados
Lettuce and greens not named “iceberg”
Chorizo
Oyster sauce
Pancetta
Prosciutto
Parmesan that doesn’t come from a jar
Yogurt
Craft beer
Eggs from chickens that eat bugs
English cucumbers
Ramen
Fresh herbs such as basil and sage
Duck
Cornish hens
Basmati vinegar
Olive oil
Fresh fish
Kiwi
Sea salt
Dijon mustard
Sriracha
Authentic European cheeses such as Brie or Stilton
Cilantro
Whole grain breads
Risotto rice

This isn’t even dipping into the processed frozen foods or specialty Asian markets. Now roll back 100 years before then and millions of Americans eat regularly from foods that kings would have never heard of. Yeah, I’m not scrimping on groceries.

This list is nonsense. What's Basmati vinegar?

Balsamic vinegar an Basmati rice. They merged in my mind because neither were easily available.

The first time I had yogurt was after a 10k race in the late ‘70’s. I took one taste and spit it out. Then I realized the fruit was on the bottom. Got another one gave it a good stir and finished it reluctantly, thinking it was the weirdest thing I ever ate.

My mom would make muffins out of Raisin Bran. It was revolutionary bread.

I recently signed up for Hello Fresh delivery. Three meals a week for my wife and I so far cost about $7.30 a meal per person shipped to my door. So far so good. It's nice having meals I wouldn't expect to prepare for myself and I'm learning how to cook foods outside my knowledge/regular cooking.

EDIT: I would also add that skipping a meal once a week saves money. Maybe, you have lunch on Tuesday and then just skip dinner while looking forward to breakfast the next day. Doesn't work for some but is definitely helpful for your body. Another option would be to have a water fast day once a week. Good for your prostate as you age.

Olive oil was made common by Sam’s Club and Costco. The three main fats in my house growing up were margarine, Corn oil, and Crisco. Butter and lard made occasional appearances.

Nah, I really haven't changed much of what I buy - as a single guy, I get by on minimalism.

Went to Sam's Club today with a couple of buddies :

24 pack of Heneiken
1 handle of Cap't Morgan
1 bottle of Glenfiddich
1 package of fresh pineapple
1 jar of canned pineapple (in coconut water)
1 outdoor folding chair, blue
1 box of the Fruit N' Cream instant oatmeal
1 box of Dunkin Donuts coffee K-cups

My freezer is full of meat - venison, ribs, some killer Tomahawk steaks from Mo Legacy Beef, and I have all the canned goods/dry cereals/mac & cheese stuff in the world (which I NEVER ****ing touch, but girls LOVE ramen for some reason, idk) plus farm fresh eggs from my buddy's chickens.

Big same.

in fact, that stupid question from a bartender would most likely elicit a slightly snarky "**** NO, I thought you were a bartender? If you can't do a Capt and Coke, then make a ****ing Capt and Dr Pepper. Guaran-****ing-tee you have THAT shit, don't you?"

Depends on where you live. Most of the cocaine in the Columbia MO area is complete and utter garbage that probably doesn't even qualify as "cocaine" on a percentage-level, but would most likely be considered "baby laxative and vitamin powder that smells like cocaine".

Sick, sad world. But I'm not going to pay for it. ****, I don't even want to do it for free.

Came home from the bar with 3 hotties, one of them brought the cocaine, and it was kinda not really good at all.

I want that shit that is the overall equivalent of getting smacked in the face with a ****ing brick. That shit that instantly makes your whole face go numb, going down your throat, making it hard to swallow, and it makes these bells and whistles go off in all these places as neurons and dendrites fighting to beat each other to the synapses with all this important information RIGHT ****ING NOW...

"I'm not a methhead, I'm a cocaine addict and an alcoholic."
