Game of Thrones Seasons 7-8

About to hit the 5000 post mark on the old thread, the first season 7 trailer today seems like the right time to start the final Game of Thones thread.

I'm going back to the original rules pre-2015. I don't think we need supervision or bannings. Just don't be a dick. Post anything you find online that hasn't aired yet inside of spoiler tags. That's pretty much it. I think we can all handle that...

For future us, 2015 thread is here: Link

Lot to process there. We all knew NK was getting one. And the battle was beatiful. They have spent the GDP of a small county on those dragons. St least they're not biffing it. Yeah the writing isn't as sharp but they're doing work.

I am 1,000,000% sure GRRM will/is changing it for the sake of changing it. It was supposed to be out before S6 FFS. He's changing it so it can be "different" than the show and he can show off how much better he is.

These episodes are moving too fast. I understand why they are, but it seems so incredibly rushed now to get the story in that it's almost a disservice to the storytelling that has come before this point.
I don't necessarily disagree that they needed to move things along but it makes the series seem disjointed. Character piece morphs into blockbuster at S7.

Here is an update on GRRM's Live Journal - Not A Blog to address "Winds of Winter" and his material on Targaryen kings history which has been completed. Could "Fire and Blood" become a new GoT spinoff on HBO?

GRRM - Live Journal - Not A Blog:
Quote:
Speaking of fake history... regulars here may recall our plan to assemble an entire book of my fake histories of the Targaryen kings, a volume we called (in jest) the GRRMarillion or (more seriously) FIRE AND BLOOD. We have so much material that it's been decided to publish the book in two volumes. The first of those will cover the history of Westeros from Aegon's Conquest up to and through the regency of the boy king Aegon III (the Dragonbane). That one is largely written, and will include (for the first time) a complete detailed history of the Targaryen civil war, the Dance of the Dragons. My stories in DANGEROUS WOMEN ("The Princess and the Queen") and ROGUES ("The Rogue Prince") were abridged versions of the same histories.

No publication date has been set yet, but it's likely that we will get the first volume of FIRE AND BLOOD out in late 2018 or early 2019. The second volume, which will carry the history from Aegon III up to Robert's Rebellion, is largely unwritten, so that one will be a few more years in coming.

And, yes, I know you all want to know about THE WINDS OF WINTER too. I've seen some truly weird reports about WOW on the internet of late, by 'journalists' who make their stories up out of whole cloth. I don't know which story is more absurd, the one that says the book is finished and I've been sitting on it for some nefarious reason, or the one that says I have no pages. Both 'reports' are equally false and equally moronic. I am still working on it, I am still months away (how many? good question), I still have good days and bad days, and that's all I care to say. Whether WINDS or the first volume of FIRE AND BLOOD will be the first to hit the bookstores is hard to say at this juncture, but I do think you will have a Westeros book from me in 2018... and who knows, maybe two. A boy can dream...

Same here. I was hoping that Jon would somehow get on the dead dragon's back and be the true King of the North.

Do you remember when the Three-eyed Raven told Bran that he will never walk again but he would fly? Is it possible that Bran wargs into the ice dragon and turns on the Night King?

If Bran could do that, would it be possible for him to turn the dragon back from the dead to the living - like happily ever after?

If the whole ASOIAF plotline is an allegory to global warming, then I think a Bran as the Night King things makes sense in that he draws attention to a huge problem that humanly powers don't recognize / fail to do anything about and forces them to unite to address the problem.

Although, the you'll never walk again part from the Three-eyed Raven seems to contradict that possibility.

Bran in the future could get stuck warging as the Night King of the present.

So do you think global warming kills the Night Walker and company off a thousand years later?

During the wintry battle of the living and the dead one character (maybe Thoros or Beric) says, "The enemy always wins..." However, I did not catch the rest of the sentence.

Loved when Tormund or the Hound told Gentry to "stop whinging."

Why did they leave Gendry out here without a weapon while running for the wall?

I would not have volunteered for that trip.

Edit: How is it that dragon fire did not melt all the ice?

Chucklesome, however, you're confusing the names. It's either white walker or night king.

Basically, and I'm paraphrasing(you can easily look up the exact words):

But that doesn't mean we should stop fighting

Loved when Tormund or the Hound told Gentry to "stop whinging."

The Hound. There was some great dialogue this episode.

Why did they leave Gendry out here without a weapon while running for the wall?

His hammer was to heavy

I would not have volunteered for that trip.

It melted plenty of ice. It wasn't going to melt all of it. Ice is very thick.

Edit: no clue why my response looks how it does.

I agree, but the way Jon was about to get it, then Benjen shows up with a horse, then takes as much time as it would take to get on the horse to say "there's no time" before Jon rides off and Benjen is swamped by undead was really bad. I know he's not a main character on the show, but there would have been a whole episode about Benjen rescuing Jon and then imparting some important piece of info to him over a campfire.

Yeah, I am not happy with the the way they are taking the show. Horrible writing and trying to move pieces around way to quick.

While it wasn't interesting to watch, I thought the convo between Tyrion and Daenerys was interesting. In a rushed season, they sure spent a lot of time talking about a successor. Then she brings up her inability to have children again to Jon and Jorah telling Jon that Longclaw will serve him and his children well for centuries. Seemed like some bread crumbs getting laid.

Also, like the entire Arya storyline, I'm hoping it eventually goes somewhere.
