stevieray,
unfortunely we live in the MTV generation, where scoring points by the boatload, and big plays on offense is what atracts the younger fan. I grew up in an era when good hard hitting defense wasn't nearly outlawed, watching not only the Laniers, Bells, Buchannons of the Chiefs, but great Ds like The Purple People Eaters,The Monsters of The Midway, etc. Teams like that just don't attract fans anymore, and the NFL knows it. the milkman remembering the great Ds of yesteryear |

I still want to know why Moss got fined for touching a ref but Aikman didn't.
Defense is a thing of the past. Traditionalists and fans of teams like the Chiefs can appreciate a good defensive battle. The league however is appealing to the non-traditional fans -women, youngsters and guys who for some unknown reason to me, don't really like football. That is why they brought Dennis Miller to MNF. Tight bump and run coverage will draw a flag while pushing off is overlooked. If a safety comes up and cracks a receiver with a hit that would make Ronnie Lott proud, he is flagged for leading with the helmet and hitting a defenseless player. If a QB scrambles and intends on sliding or running out of bounds, he is off limits. It is all about scoring flashy TD's and drawing a new, larger television audience. |

Watch the games today...and tell me if some of them don't look like scripted Hollywood productions.
