****Official Golf Thread****

The original Bushwood thread is overflowing like Craig Stadler's FUPA.

Use this thread to discuss tournaments, swing thoughts, equipment, and golf deals.

I thought we could also use the OP to create a WITB for ChiefsPlanet members. I'll list a poster's name and put their sticks in a spoiler tag, so you can see what everyone is carrying.

Dentist that I went to after me and my dad's dentist died of cancer suggested root canal but my mom had the wherewithal to get a second opinion from the other guy in that office. He informed us that the pain was very likely a sideeffect of the band on that molar lowering my gumline and leaving the root exposed and that the pain should go away on its own.

Phil Mickelson is the unluckiest golfer in the history of the game. Worse than Greg Norman. That is abso****inglutely ridiculous to shoot the best round of the day by two shots, except for the guy you played with, who tied the major low round today and shot the best round of the day for three straight days.

Stenson made 10 birdies today. He's good, but give me a ****ing break.

He has the third lowest aggregate in history at the 2001 PGA and didn't win that tournament either. Now, he's posted the T4 lowest aggregate and didn't win that tournament, because both times he played with the guy who shot the lowest aggregate in history.

Tits Mickelson has left so many victories on the course over the years on the fourth day due to his own hand that I can't help but feel sorry for him here. What could he have done any better to win?

He's really only truly blown a few majors, Winged Foot is the most notable.

How do you shoot 266 and 267 and lose both? Eleven runner ups against five wins is just preposterously unlucky. Stenson just played out of his ****ing mind.

Whatever Tiger Woods had that made guys crumble, Phil has something that makes them play the rounds of their lives.

Right?

Guy has the worst luck ever....good to solid players (or even average) morph into a combination of Tiger/Jack/Arnie against him in majors. Toms, Goosen, Ogilvy, Glover, Clarke, Rose...etc.

It's mind boggling...not to mention having to play against arguably the greatest ever in his prime.

No shit.

IIRC, Phil's worst round this week was -1, and he threw up a 63 and a 65.

Yet gets smoked by 3 shots, even though he was eleventy-billion shots clear of 3rd place.

11 runner up finishes in a major, and he's even going to be the runner up in that category as well behind Nicklaus.

Essentially every other golfer besides Tiger that has won as many majors as Phil had a 50% win percentage when in the top two. Jack was 18/37, Watson was 8/15, Palmer 7/15, and so on. Phil is 5/16 and two of those 11 include the third and fourth lowest aggregate scores in major championship history.

When my wife asked me how the tournament went today I told her, "Phil had four birdies, an eagle, and no bogeys. He shot the best round on the course by two shots...except for the guy who was playing with him who shot a mother****ing 63, because sports are ****ing stupid."

----------------

Even excusing the shit early in his career, since 2014, these are his three runner up finishes:

-15 at the PGA, loses by one shot despite shooting a 66 on Sunday, in part because the guy who beat him hit a three wood off the neck that he thought was terrible and somehow rolled up to 10 feet when he thought it was going into the woods.

-14 at the Masters the year that Speith ties the scoring record.

-17 at the British when no one else was within 10 shots of him, but the guy that beat him shot the low round of the day on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Also, said guy was 187th on tour in putting, but fourth this week.

I really wished I would have seen this. I missed a great golf event.

Went to the Pirates Nationals game in DC and it was Africa hot!

DVR is your friend. I took the kids swimming all afternoon and watched when I got home.

Stenson was a ball striking machine. That dude hit the center of the club face every single time. It was awesome to watch. He was a little shakier with the putter.

Phil hit some loose drives and irons but his short game is just stupendous.

All in all, it was as good as watching golf can get.

I missed the end too, but unlike you I was at hockey practice. I've learned over the last part of my life that the best way to beat the summer heat is to skate around on a 125,000 pound block of ice inside an air-conditioned building. Great exercise, great kids to coach, no suntan lotion (and no skin cancer), no added salt from spitting seeds, and no inch-thick layer of blown dirt in your pours.

It's a good thing!

Nothing. That was an incredible display of golf and putting by both players. There was no choke. It was breath taking for me. You dont see that in a Major all that often.

Meh. The runners up totals don't accurately reflect Phils chances in those majors. Many times he finished several strokes back. Even this week, he lost by 3. Historically that's a sizable gap. Yes he'd have won pretty much any other year, but they're Majors, hard to win. Sergio, Westwood and Montgomerie have tons of top-3. But how often were they really an eyelash away?

Plenty of guys played great only to lose by 1. (Think 2012 Masters when Day/Scott watched helplessly as Shwartzel went off like a time bomb with 4 birds to close)

Love Phil, rooted for him, but his legacy isn't any different winning or losing yesterday. And don't forget he threw one away in 2006 PGA which shouldn't have ever happened.

I have a friend who is working at Branson Hills, used to be called Payne Stewart, he got me on today for $25.00. That's a deal. Shot a big fat 80 from the blue tees. Used only one ball so I had no penalty's. All in all it was a fun day. Hot! Especially for an old man. You couldn't have walked out and placed it better then I drove it on the front 9. Still shot a 41 with a birdie on #8. Missed/left short the 12 ft eagle putt. Pffft... I play Buffalo Ridge on Sunday.
