It'll make a billion at the box office and hundreds of millions more with the Blu Ray and Digital releases, not to mention the millions of people that sign up for one month of Disney Plus because they missed it in the theater.

It's nearly impossible for sequels to earn more money at the box office than the original film. It would be foolish for any studio exec to expect that Matrix 4, Avatar 2, 3 & 4, etc. will out perform its predecessors (although Matrix 4 has the best opportunity in this scenario because the original was released in 1999).

RoS won't likely top TLJ but that doesn't make it "Loser" in the eyes of the studio and regardless of what the internet thinks, topping $1 Billion at the box office is amazing and somewhat rare, even when factoring in today's inflation.

In the universe where it's being measured against both expectations and previous movies in the same franchise. You know this, so why pretend you're ignorant of the obvious?

The gap is widening. I remember people using the odd early release days as an excuse as to why the numbers started down with XII, but the last 4 days, Thurs - Sun, brought in $43,779,550. Days 14-17 of TLJ brought in $72,010,469, according to Box Office Mojo.

That can still change, of course, and TLJ dropped into single millions starting with day 19 (IX first did it on day 14 but then got a two day bounce back before falling back under $10m on Sunday), so it's still possible that the numbers tighten back up a bit. But, even so, we're looking at numbers that are, at best, going to be in the ball park of what was a relative box office disaster.

I really don't want to see any more recast OT characters. It just doesn't work for me. I can't buy anyone else playing those characters with the sole exception being Ewan. Is the Kenobi movie still happening?

Not a movie but a limited series on Disney plus.

This just shows that Rey should've died, the Palpatines should've died, and Ben should've been the lone survivor to rebuild the Jedi Order. I would watch another movie of Ben being the hero that Luke Skywalker should've been made out to be in the sequel trilogy. Adam Driver living with the guilt, being a reborn again dark side user, would've been intriguing material. Hell even introduce Gray Jedi with him and evolve the mythos. You can leave Finn and Poe off the script entirely and build a new franchise surrounding that storyline.

The two runs are 5 calendar days off, and that might be having some impact, but the overall numbers are still way down.

There's nothing to indicate that there's $90m to be found in a 5 day adjustment this far into the run.

I'm just using your first post as a touchstone for following the numbers, and any conversation that might come from that. Please don't take the followups as a shot or argument. Following the these mega franchises is interesting to me, because they're about all that's left of the movie industry's blockbusters.

It's still coming in lower. The last 3 days were all lower than in '17, and the total came up $18,996,968 for VIII, versus $12,448,187 for IX.

So IX is currently on pace to bring in more than $100 million less domestically than did VII. It's currently about $95m under.


Edit: Holy crap! Someone just pointed out to me that IX ($479,451,123) is only about even with Rogue One ($479,124,415), and trending downward faster.
