Err, never mind. I reread the quote, and I think I read it wrong the first time. I took:

"I think physically we're much bigger, we're much stronger. I know we're a tougher football team."

to mean that he was comparing the Chiefs to the Raiders. Upon rereading it, I realized he was probably talking about the Chiefs of week 7 vs the Chiefs of the start of the season. My bad. Sorry for posting this and making you all click on it.

Go Chiefs!

There are so many plots and subplots to this rivalry I don't think anything either side says can fire it up more than it already is. I'm still pissed at Ben Davidson and I wasn't' even born yet!

Nov. 1, 1970, Kansas City Municipal Stadium. Oakland came to town with ahalf game lead in the new AFC West. Oakland led early in the game but Lenny D brought us back on an 85 yard scoring drive to give us a 17-14 4th quarter lead. With 1:08 remaining Lenny shocked everyone by running a 19 yard bootleg to the Raider 29. As Lenny lay on the ground clutching the ball, Davidson dove on Lenny HELMET FIRST. The Otis Taylor retaliated with a punch and the ensuing brawl lasted 5 minutes. When the dust settled, a 15 yard piling on penalty was assessed against Oakland, Taylor was ejected, but Davidson remained in the game! A Raider defender complained that since Taylor was ejected there should be another 15 yard penalty against us and the officials agreed because of "continuous action" (If I'm not mistaken this is why we now have dead ball fouls). The Chiefs failed to get another first down and the Raiders came back to tie the game at 17 with 8 seconds left. The idiot Davidson's remark after the game was, "I didn't think the quarterback was down. I was touching him down to make sure he didn't get up and run."

Whether you were being sarcastic or not Slim I just thought I would share this with others who may not know this infamous piece of this great rivalry. I got much of the details from "Warpaths: The Illustrated History of the Kansas City Chiefs." It's a great book if you don't have it and don't mind spending 50 bucks it is worth it.

CUNNINGHAM: "The difficulty has been not having (RB/KR) Dante Hall (injured) in the return game. He stepped up last week on a kickoff return. There were five guys who missed him clean and I was pleased to see that. The blocking unit needs to see that and also get their timing with him. When you change returners it's just like a runner or receiver. The timing's not there."

This is the quote that I took notice of. It can be read a couple of ways but I took it to mean constantly changing personell (running back) can screw up the timing with his blockers.

I pesonally like GC and support what he does, as a rule, but this concerned me a bit.

Yeah, that is a little troublesome to see a head coach make a statement like that and then defend the RBbC the way he does.

Dan and DJay - I'm glad I'm not the only one who found that statement just odd. I read it last night, and thought it was a rather odd statment all things considered.

Timing with the blockers is part of the equation when talking about a RB getting in a rhythm and into the flow of the game. Gun understands that the returner and ST need to get their timing down, but is unable to see this in the running game? Maybe he is just not covinced that any of he Chiefs' backs has the talent to carry the load. But, he should settle on one and give him the chance.

I can't believe Gun really like RBBC...I just think he doesn't have total faith in any one guy we have...Mike Cloud showed something last week...as did Anders...

I'm hoping Cloud and TRich the rest of the way with Anders, Moreau and Bennett backing them up....
