Next 5 weeks in the AFCW

How long till the Chiefs can take the lead in the Division?

Donks (3-3) next 5 games:Browns, WFT, Cowboys, Eagles, Chargers. Easily could lose them all, maybe pick off the Iggles or the WFT. Their season will be over in 5 games. I predict 3-8 by then.

Faid next 5 games (4-2): Eagles, Giants, Chiefs, Bengals, Cowboys - They could take out the Iggles and Giants. I don't think they are beating the Chiefs (though it will be a tough game cuz it always is), but I think the Bengals and Cowboys pound them. Still hanging around at 6-5.

Bolts next 5 games(4-2): Patriots, Eagles, Vikings, Steelers, Broncos - yeah they got pounded today but they are a better team than most anyone on their upcoming 5 games...Maybe the Steelers beat them...but I think they go undefeated - division leaders at 9-2

Chiefs next 5 games (3-3): Titans, Giants, Packers, Raiders, Cowboys - 3 wins for sure, but the Packers and the Cowboys...I dunno. I feel like we split those and go 4-1 in that span. 7-4.

Chiefs need to do some work to take the lead by December, and we need the Chargers to lose. Thoughts?

I think they've just got a collective case of the 'yips'.

At some point I would think things would have to return to the mean, so to speak.

The answers are plain to see, they just need to execute it. I think they will, or at least well enough to make a run.

My brain says 12-5. My heart says they win out as Patrick and the boys get it together this week and look like themselves again.

12-5 sounds about right. They should take care of everyone left. If everything is settled going into the last game against the Donks and they don't have the bye sewed up then I could see Andy resting a few guys. That would be the Donks Super Bowl and a chance for them to break their losing streak against the "B" team.

The turnaround by this defense has been rather stark and amazing. NOBODY could have seen that coming, especially considering the historically bad play they were producing the first month of the year. But I'll absolutely take it.

No Meck. You ignored the history of Steve Spagnuolo as our DC.

Because you a negative sky is falling dipshit.

It's like Spags always forgets for the first 4-6 weeks of the season that his defenses are always way better when he decides to bring pressure for some odd reason.

GoChiefs beat me to it but Spags' history as a DC should have been reason enough to believe. His defenses always look lost to start the season.

I absolutely agree about returning to the mean. This is NOT who Mahomes and Co. are. We know who they are and they're going to eventually gravitate back towards that, even if it's only marginal this season.

He's also installing new packages on a week-to-week basis. The defensive playbook now is much larger than at the beginning of the season. They've talked about it on the last couple of broadcasts.

The biggest reason was health.

Health + changing the roles of Sorensen and Jones made a massive difference.

The following players had to get healthy:

Jones
Gay
Ward
Fenton

Those are out top line performers right now.

Adding Ingram put them over the top.

Mike Hughes and Daniel Sorensen starting was too much for the pass defense to overcome with no pass rush early in the season.

Once those guys were benched and they found the pass rush, everything else clicked into place.

Can't overlook the Melvin Ingram signing that allowed them to move Jones back inside, either. Basically, from that point on, this defense has completely changed.

I hope Andy threw his cold meatball sub at the person that thought that Jones at end would be a plus for this defense.

And put those two points together and the defense was always going to return to the mean as well. Playing a full strength Browns offense, a Ravens team that can score some points, the other divisional QB people drool over, Josh Point Differential Allen.... no defense would come away in the top 5 or maybe not even 10 after that. And FFS, they weren't even statically the worst defense in the league after that rough start, much less "historically bad" (yeah, they were still pretty bad).

They were always going to look much improved against the likes of WFT, Teddy Bridgewater, NYG... and of course were also fortunate to not face Rodgers or the Cowboys offense at full strength.

Of course, if some of the best offenses get their shit together for the playoffs, the defensive numbers will adjust again (I wouldn't think as poorly as early season, of course) and the sky will be falling once again.

FOR SURE! This has been somewhat overlooked. Melvin is 100% man and really has been a key cog in this eruption!

You could say we lost to the Ravens almost completely because Jones played end.

We would ****thump those ratbirds right now.

Hughes has played just fine in Fenton's absence because the pass rush is better. Baker even looked good on several snaps on Sunday.

This secondary is young and athletic. They just need help, like every secondary in football.

I would also add Thornhill to the list.

He's looked like more like his old self the last 3 or 4 weeks.

Wait you mean you don't have to be a genius to be optimistic coming off 2 SB's and a AFCCG appearance and predict things like 12 wins?

I think my favorite this year has been the fire Spags crew like dude just forgot how to coach after the last 2 years.

Of course the fire Andy crew got back into the swing of things as well.

You guys know who you are.
