If you saw The Last Jedi in the theater do you plan on seeing The Rise of Skywalker?

I am just kind of curious to see how many people that saw the Last Jedi in theaters are going to see the new movie in theaters as well. Lets see if I can figure out how to do a poll or if this will be a failure on my part.

I will always remember The Last Jedi as the slightly flawed, but very enjoyable beginning of what could have been wrapped into a very interesting and satisfying end at the hands of someone who wanted to put some effort into filmmaking.

Instead, we got sheer laziness borne out of panic.

"Um, they didn't like it when we tried something new so um....OLD SHIT IN A NEW WRAPPER! YEAH!"

Well, way to annoy the people who actually know what good filmmaking looks like and hardcore fans who know better.

Yeah, there's a lot more wrong with that film than just that.

Maybe spend some time on explaining Snoke before you kill him, and get rid of the scene where Kylo tells Rey about her parents to keep that thread going as a pull into the next movie. Which was one of the big problems with TLJ, IMO, that it killed all the mysteries set up by TFA, effectively killing momentum into the next film.
So basically, if they just redid the entire movie, it would have been good?

That's a matter of opinion. Some people hate the Holdo maneuver, I personally ****ing love it.

But objectively speaking, it is a more well made film than Episode IX.

At least it's ****ing paced correctly.

Sure it is, which is why you trying to discredit the criticisms people had as "Luke wasn't a badass" and "Canto Bight" was ****ing ridiculous.

LOL replacing Canto Blight with a little Snoke backstory & making Luke physically fight Kylo instead of a force ghost dodge fest is hardly changing the whole movie.

The movie would still have issues, but it would have satisfied a lot more of the fanbase IMO. Granted there will always be a portion of the fanbase that won't be happy unless their headcannon makes it onto the screen. But IMO the biggest thing most Star Wars fans wanted out of a sequel trilogy was to see Luke fight as a true jedi master.

They basically sidelined him in VII & he never actually even turns on a lightsaber that I can remember in VIII before they kill him off. I think the only time he touches one in the entire trilogy will be when he tosses it over his shoulder. Just a failure to give the people what they wanted, they had a lot of freedom to do different things. There are a few notes that need to be hit in Star Wars films & they missed too many of them IMO. Simple small changes could have made a huge difference in VII & VIII, haven't seen IX yet so can't comment on that.

LOL no kidding, I'm not as harsh as a lot of people but that's really glossing over the warts of TLJ. The other problem with that theory is that TFA which is also considered rehashed JJ garbage by many actually has a higher Rotten Tomatoes rating than TLJ.

I'm not trying to discredit anything.

Those are the largest issues with the film.

Anything else is largely extremely subjective.

No, blatantly ignoring plot threads set during the first movie of the trilogy and making decisions solely to "SuBvErT eXpEcTaTiOnS" is not good filmmaking. Its actually trash, ESPECIALLY when you're making the middle movie in a trilogy.

I don't think any plot threads were ignored.

Rian explored everything - Rey's lineage, Kylo's power dynamic, Luke's character arc, Resistance vs First Order.

In an unpredictable way. And I applaud him for that.

If you're left wanting more with Snoke that's too bad - I'm not sure he was ever going to be an interesting character. He only ever existed to feed Kylo's character.

He has as much backstory - more in fact - than the Emperor had going into Return of the Jedi. That's plenty, since Kylo is who we're really interested in.

I liked it, a lot. And it was better than rehashing old shit in a new wrapper. Period.

Granted it's early, but the audience rating on RT is actually pretty good for IX. Way better than VIII FWIW.

What I’m upset at the most in is how Finn was a complete useless POS. I liked him in the first film and thought he would take off but his arc was so disappointing. If Rey has more acting chops she would’ve been more believable

Also, was talking more about how Rian ignored the intentions JJ had for the plot of Episode 8 in favor of his own ideas. Not just tweaking, outright ignored. It makes it pretty hard for Episode 9. Granted, that's at the feet of Kennedy and Iger for not organizing this trilogy at all and letting it mutate into this garbled disaster.
