we just watched the latest episode, and now the wife (that time of the month

) is crying that Nate is dead.

Its just a dumb show she makes me watch but I love her and don't want her crying all night.

I know...I hate the bundle of sticks part...I usually take a leak during their scenes, but to keep mrs. rich happy I watch it with her.

besides watching the f#%k scenes are kinda cool

I have to disagree.

The fug scenes:

A) Grandma death humping her hairdresser/psycho/fat Russian boyfriend.
B) Mansechs.
C) Claire (sorry, I'd almost prefer the gramma' scenes.)
D) Nate's Headcase of the week.

WARNING, This is a recap of the next episode from someone who has already seen it;

Okay, I just saw "Ecotone," and all I can say is... HOLY MOTHER OF ****!

With apologies in advance to M. Giant, here's a recapling:

DGDJ is a runner who, while stopping to check his pulse in what looks like Griffith Park, is jumped and killed by a cougar.

Nate has had another AVM. Paramedics get him to the hospital; Maggie calls David, David calls Brenda, David calls Claire (who is on her dinner date with Skeevy Lawyer, who's skeevy mostly 'cause he's a Republican), David calls Ruth, but Ruth's in the woods with Hiram (realizing she doesn't really want him after all) and doesn't have a cell phone. Everyone (minus Ruth) loiters in the waiting room, Brenda giving Maggie the stink eye. While Nate is waiting for his CAT scan, we flash behind his eyes and he's imagining he never had the AVM-- he and Maggie are bonding post-coitus, he's telling Brenda they don't "fit," never have, he has been confusing drama for passion, and their marriage is over.

Back in the real world, Nate's in surgery to repair the brain bleed. In the woods, Hiram is pitching a hissy 'cause Ruth wouldn't put out the night before, not even oral or a hand job; she tells him to go give himself a hand job and stomps off, pausing briefly to fantasize blowing away each of her exes in turn with a big ol' shotgun. She catches a ride back to town with a busful of Chinese people who were practicing that graceful-looking, slow-motion exercise stuff out in the great outdoors.

Rico and Vanessa have a very sweet bonding scene where Vanessa tearfully confesses that her fear and vulnerability are the reason she's been treating Rico like shit. Rico says he understands, and they hug.

The surgery is successful but Nate's in a coma-- could be hours, could be months. Claire sobs and is comforted by the lawyer who, even though Republican, is a stand-up guy.

With Brenda at his bedside, Nate wakes up. He's got weakness on his right side, but otherwise he's 100%-- thinking, speaking, looking eerily calm and content. Brenda goes to retrieve Maya from Ma Chen who's been babysitting. Maggie comes in and she and Nate share an intimate little moment-- Nate says he doesn't regret their roll in the hay. Later, when Brenda returns with Maya, Nate tells her (in real life this time) that he wants out; they'll talk later about arrangements re: Maya. Brenda tearfully calls him a coward and leaves.

Nate is receiving visitors, including David and Keith and the boys, though Anthony keeps sliding out of his chair and trying to escape the hospital; it is revealed that he hates/fears hospitals, 'cause the boys always went with their mom when she OD'd.

Claire is very sweet about Nate in this episode, by the way, kissing his hand, etc.

So David is hanging out with Nate, chatting with Nate's roommate, watching penguins on the TV. We flash behind Nate's eyes again, and Nate is in his boyhood bedroom. He walks out of the house and there is David, looking like a Maynard G. Krebs-style beatnik, admonishing him to get in the back of a surfer van, which he does. They smoke a joint and exchange some surrealistic stoner banter. Nate-the-Elder is revealed to be the driver, and they arrive at the beach. Nate-the-Younger strips off his t-shirt and joyfully plunges into the ocean while David and Dad warn him to stop, there could be sharks, etc.

Flashing back to the hospital room, David wakes with a start, hearing a steady beep. Nate's heart monitor is flat-lined; he's motionless and his eyes are slightly open and blank. David frantically calls Nate's name as the screen fades to white:

I don't think they'll kill Nate. If he would have died, they would have put his name and date up when it fades to white.

Interesting note, I saw that the guy who plays Keith is going to be in a series on Fox this fall. I wonder if they don't kill him off this season.
