Kidney Stones

Any of you guys ever have them? I got one for the first time in my life and that was by far the most painful experience of my life. It ended up landing me in the hospital in Baltimore. I need to figure out what caused that and not do it anymore.

My gallstones recently have been kicking my butt, too. If you live long enough, everything breaks.

Sorry to hear. My wife had them several years ago and she claims it hurts worse than childbirth. And for the Doctor to put a stent up in your kidney isn't a ride you get at Disneyland. Hope you get better soon.

There once was a guy named Bwana.
Who's pecker had the drip from Tijuana.
He might be an excellent mod,
But he has an infected rod.
The doc said "pee" but he said I don't wanna.

The only kidney stone I had was several years ago and happened because at the time I was taking calcium supplements daily. I quit doing that and haven't had one again.

The only thing guys like Bwana and I eat are Elk hearts and we only drink Stout Lager or burbon.
Vitamins are for pussies.

For many years I was on the "annual" plan. 1 per year.

Then I cut out soda and I only got them once every 2.5 years....but they were huge and had to be "fetched".

Obviously....I drink all the soda I want these days.

People get different kinds of stones for different reasons. What works for someone else probably won't work for you, so don't listen to anyone's diatary advice.

For instance, there are multiple posts mentioning cranberry juice. In general, it's good for your kidneys and urinary tract. And there is a rare type of stone it can help prevent. But the most common type of kidney stone is calcium oxalate. Cranberry juice raises your oxalate level. So if that's what you have, not only wouldn't cranberry juice help, it would just raise your odds of having another one.

When the stone comes out, they'll test it to find out what type of stone it is. Then they can help you prevent it accordingly. And ideally see a second doctor like a urologist to make sure he gives you the same advice, because some doctors know more about them than others.

WTF? NO! They cut up your hang down and didn't even get it? That's grounds for murder.

All the best, friend. I'm going to drink a shitton of water. Right now.

If they are the size of the ones pictured, they were probably removed surgically. Before it got to that point they'd do an ESWL if they are below a certain size or a laser lithotripsy (using a scope, like a colonoscopy) to destroy the stones, so you can expel them on your own.
