Best ever? That's a hard one. Depending on my mood, it'd be one of these two:
I've talked before about Momma's fried chicken. Seabell Thomas was a restaurateur in Baton Rouge, running the Silver Moon Cafe. At some point, rent on her place became too much, and she shut down. She started doing by-appointment-only catering out of her house. If the party's big enough, she'll put you up in what I think used to be her garage. If it's small, you're probably gonna eat off a folding card table in her front room. The menu is fried chicken, red beans and rice, gumbo, greens, mashed potatoes, cornbread... I can't think of everything she had. Everything is nothing short of amazing, and it's bar none the best fried chicken I've ever tasted. By far. A few years ago, she put out a cookbook. She signed me one and sent it to me in the mail. First thing I did was turned to her fried chicken recipe. And it was something like this: 8 chickens, flour, and then listed a few seasonings. But no amounts. I had another meal at her place about a year after that and asked her - "Momma... I got your recipe, but there's no amounts. Can you tell me how much, I mean roughly?" And she said, "Oh, it's just the normal amount. And love. You can't forget the love." The second was at a restaurant in Vegas. An Italian place in the MGM called Fiamma. Best lobster gnocchi I've ever had. They also have a tomato butter that's amazing, that I haven't been able to replicate yet. Ultimately, if I had to pick between the two, it's Momma's every time. But I've had dreams about that gnocchi. |

I've eaten at a lot of expensive restaurants all over the world but the #1 and #2 best things I've ever eaten occurred at the same restaurant on the same day:
