Killian is the only bad pick IMO...I disliked the Long pick only because Derrick Anderson was available and clearly by taking Killian they wanted to get a QB....

I grade them out with A-.....Best job drafting based on what is known at draft day...They could all turn out to be turds or all studs but based on what you know at this point and the precieved value of the players on most draft boards it was the best the Chiefs have done in a decade or more...Probably the best under Peterson by a good margin.

It all depends on what DJ turns out to be, whether it's the second coming of Derrick Thomas or Aundray Bruce.

The kicking game is the one place where college success should translate.
Everyone else, you wonder how the way the looked against college competition will translate into performance against NFL competition.
But last I checked, the footballs didn't change size from college to pro. Yardage doesn't become longer. Gravity doesn't increase it's force.
That's like saying a great college free throw shooter won't translate to the NBA.

Couple things...The balls don't change size but they do use the "K" Balls which are new and greasy which many kickers don't adjust well.....Both punters and kickers have to adjust to a faster approach from the ends and get the ball away quicker....And the pressure is enormously higher as a few shanks and you get cut...In college you could shank a bunch and often times there isn't anybody to replace you. It's like the difference of making 5 foot putts on the practice green versus making a 5 footer to win a tourney or a big wager...huge difference and some can't handle that kind of pressure.

You might remember the punter from Colorado several years ago named English....Huge leg and boomed them in college because he was able to take one extra step...Got to the NFL and had to remove the extra step and was out of the league real quick.

But Colquitt is noted for his 2 1/2 technique and concomitant quick release. So the failings of some extra-stepper isn't relevant at all.

Well you don't have to look any further than just last year when Green Bay spent their 3rd rounder on BJ Sander who was believed to be the best punter available and he was horrible...Inactive all 16 games and only reason he wasn't cut was due to the high round investment. So if it is such an easy translation he wouldn't have been hitting 25 yard shanks all preseason long.

I can find good reasons for drafting every player except the QB from Tulsa, Killian. Lacking accuracy and arm strength. Not much to like.

Svitek as a blocking TE would be interesting. Long looks like he has the frame and athletic ability to develop like Hicks did,. Johnson, Grigsby, and Hodge were around the ball a lot and made a lot of plays, a big need. Thorpe could be the WR steal of the draft if he plays like he did against Pac Man and W. Virginia, his best performance since breaking his leg a year earlier. Parquett could be a player if he gets in the weight room with some dedicated lifters like the Chiefs have. Colquit understands the game as well as any punter in football.

Overall a very solid A-. Current managements best ever, imo.

Well.....a long time ago we took a very smart, christian college d lineman and converted him to guard.

The year was 1990 and his name was Dave Szott.

He turned out pretty good. He was a rookie starter to boot.

I give it an A-. I wasn't thrilled taking a punter on the first day. It's a need position, but I probably would have went elsewhere with that pick. The only second day pick I don't care for was Long. If you are going to draft a pass rusher, get someone who actually got to the QB in college. I have no problem with the Chiefs taking an unknown QB. It's about time they started taking a shot on a QB in day two of the draft. We'll see how he does in NFLE for a year or so. Everyone else I like.

The Chiefs like those pass rush specialists that can't get to the QB.
They have the prototype in Stills.
