So, the Titans are actually really good.

Not a lot of us are familiar with this Titans team. I'll confess to forgetting they exist a few times each year.

But this year... yikes. They're actually pretty good. They're not blowing the doors off people, but they're handling business very efficiently.

Let's use this thread to familiarize ourselves with the Titans.

The good news is that we're not going to face Jake Locker, who's been zone-optioning his way to what passes for stardom in Tennessee. The bad news is, they've got a pretty effective backup QB in Ryan Fitzpatrick. Despite Fitz's limited game, he's still a very aggressive QB. He throws it downfield frequently, at least he did when he played for the Bills, but he also connected on an 80-yard bomb yesterday.

The Titans are a lot like us along the offensive line: tons and tons of talent, but they are still trying to put it together and underperforming. They are completely new in the interior of their line: Andy Levitre was a big get for them in free agency, and they drafted Chance Warmack very high. They also have a new center, who's an improvement over the last guy but it really speaks to that guy's incompetence more than it does the new guy's talent.

Roos is a Top Ten left tackle, but I don't know much about David Stewart at RT, except that he's returning from last year, so he can't be terrible. The good news? This unit isn't runblocking very well; their top two RBs are averaging 3 yards/carry. The bad news? They've only allowed nine sacks.

Their run game is a one-two punch with CJ2k and Jackie Battle. Neither is lighting the world on fire, but Johnson is a threat to break it every time, and Battle is always keeps his legs churning.

This WR corps is really, really underrated, though. Kenny Britt has Dwayne Bowe talent when he's healthy (which, right now, he isn't). Kendall Wright and Justin Hunter are gamebreakers (Hunter has barely showed up, however). Nate Washington is an extremely reliable 6-10 receptions a game, and Damian Williams is a talented youngster, but again, hasn't really showed up. So assuming Britt returns next week, you're facing Britt/Wright/Washington, with an unspectacular Delanie Walker at TE (who is also recovering from injury).

The Titans defense is 9th in yards allowed (we're 7th), and 7th in points allowed (we're 1st). They are lethal on third down, only allowing conversions 1/3 of the time (we allow it about 22% of the time). The Titans are tied for third in the league in sacks (we're 1st).

They have a pair of young, talented CBs. Jason McCourty has played very well on one side, and Alterraun Verner has been lighting the world on fire on the other side -- four interceptions already. Verner is not an athletic wonder, he's just extremely smart, like a slightly-bigger, slightly-poorer man's Brandon Flowers.

The Titans rack up a ton of sacks, but they do it primarily through blitzing. They do not have a premier passrusher, but they play a very aggressive scheme that often brings linebackers. As far as defensive lineman are concerned, they are starting former Chief Ropait Pitoitua. Derrick Morgan is the closest thing to a true passrusher they have, but he's looked pretty unspectacular. If there is a bright spot, they are ranked pretty low in run defense. Their DT rotation of Sammy Lee Hill and Jurrell Casey is spotty at best.

They've got some playmaking, versatile talent at linebacker. They can cover, they can blitz, but they can be overpowered. Establishing a ground game can go a long way to getting a leg up on this team.

Locker has looked pretty good this year.

Fitz is anybody's guess. I bet Sutton can gameplan well for him, but Fitz does have an ability to randomly light up, Cassel-style.

Sure. I think he is moving up in that potential "Franchise QB" territory. I was just mocking dumbasses that want to judge rookie qb's after a few games. The Titans were patient with Locker and will be rewarded for it.

Fitz doesn't handle pressure well so we should give him fitz . I think this is another ugly low scoring game like the Dallas one. If someone is trouting out their backup QB that's a game a good team should win.

I wonder if the Titans have the smallest dropoff from #1 QB to #2 QB in the league. Locker to Fitzpatrick doesn't seem like a huge change. Is there another team that might have a smaller dropoff? Maybe Kaepernick to McCoy? (Heh-heh.)

In Locker's defense he was only playing in spot duty his rookie year and TN had about the same type of season last year that KC had...a dismal failure.

It isn't just injury. Britt is a non-factor at this point. He won't be a titan next year and honestly at the moment is probably the 5th ranked WR on their roster. If Britt even plays at all it will be limited snaps. It might even be Washington/Wright/Williams/Hunter/Preston.

Washington, Wright And Delanie Walker have been Jakes go to but who knows with Fitzmagic in there

I'd say RG3 to Cousins is virtually no drop off right now.

Fitz really is significantly worse than Locker. He's less athletic and creative, he doesn't have a live arm, and he's not as calm in the face of pressure.

What he can do is game manage -- the problem is, he's too ambitious to do that effectively, tries to do more than he should, and forces himself into mistakes.

Locker does have the ability to proactively win games. Give him another year or two of development and he COULD be really, really good.

Locker was turning the corner this year and was also a threat to run. There is a larger difference in the two than you think.

Those Chiefs teams couldn't find sacks in a grocery store. I'm curious to see how he looks facing some pressure.

There is nothing similar about the Chiefs then and now.

Chris Johnson is a homeless man's Jamaal Charles if the homeless guy has serious mental issues and a terminal illness. And if Jamaal Charles had no heart and two broken legs.

Who else can we get a pass rush from? Bailey had a decent game, got a sack against NY. Catapano nearly had one on Eli despite only playing a few downs in the 4th. I feel Cat is the more skilled pass rusher of the two. Some more playing time for him could prove interesting in Tenn. Jackson can get to QB as well.

I would definitely go with Catapano or Tyson Jackson.

Jackson has only recorded 1 sack this year but he's flushed a QB out a few times.

Call a few well timed saftey blitzes and send Berry.
