We don't really have one of these yet, so figured we could use this as a place to discuss potential free agent acquisitions and what we would like to look for them to bring in.

You're right that he has no technique, but that's a completely different discussion. But to say that a guy with his baseline strength, length and overall athleticism has no tools is to define the term so narrowly as to mean nothing.

KPass literally IS nothing. No snaps, no production, NOTHING.

But yeah, let's focus on how "soft" Speaks is.

I can accept that Speaks was near the top of their board to begin Day 2. What I can't accept is that moving up to get him was out of fear that he wouldn't fall when the Chiefs could have just as easily taken a different player at a different position when he got selected.

Veach is aggressive. That’s just who he is. He did the same thing with Nnadi who was a great pick. Relax.

So if Veach takes him in the first and makes some speach about how the draft board fell apart after him when there are guys like Rapp, Savage, Gardner Johnson, Bell, Thompson, Hooker, etc... that are likely to be there in the 2nd, that's the same kind of tunnel vision and infatuation that led him to making a rash decision on Speaks.

As SNR said, it's deciding on a player before you absorb the board.

And if Speaks blows up this year and has a bunch of sacks?

I didn't like the pick either and I especially didn't like trading up to get him.

But what else are we going to do? Sit here and wring our hands in angst the whole time we have Patrick Mahomes because Veach screwed up his FIRST EVER draft pick?

They just got done shedding like $40M in salary cap anchors. Let's have a little hope.

This dude REALLY suffers from tunnel vision. It's probably the scout in him, where he's built a career on bugging the shit out of the HC and GM over one particular guy. It's like he went in to Day 2 with one strategy and one strategy only: draft Breeland Speaks no matter what.

I'm honestly preparing for the worst this year. I really don't trust Veach when it comes to drafts. Sorry. You can't be that focused and obsessed about one player in the 2nd round. You just can't. And if you are, it means you need to get more perspective and gain more flexibility as the primary decision maker on draft day. He clearly seems to have a problem with adjusting his draft strategies on the fly.

I'm torn on Veach. I'm still optimistic but a little worried that his first draft has really only yielded solid production from Nnadi. I think the possibility is still there for the rest of the draft class but only time will tell.

On the positive side, he does seem to have a knack for spotting talent on other teams and pulling the trigger (Ward, Butker, Lucas, etc.). Also, when he hits he hits big (Mahomes, Cox, McCoy).

All in all, I think he is a good evaluator of talent but may need a little time to grow into a top notch GM.

It's the 29th pick, not the 9th. If they think Thornhill is a better fit than those other guys, even though WE might not, it is what it is. I don't see any reason to get worked up about it until we actually know something.

Tremon Smith was a top 3 kick returner in the league (#2 according to PFF). That was a GREAT pick.
