Peters Suspended

One game. Per Andy.

Summary from Andy (paraphrase) : Best for organization. Talked to Peters. Difficult to do as I like Peters.

I just don't see how a Chiefs secondary is going to hold up long-term with Revis and Terrance out there all the time. Rivers won't play like Carr did, I can almost promise that.
It won't.

For one week the emotion and discipline was their for the D.

Much like the Packers played better on D lately but are definitely not a better team without Rodgers. Everyone just knows they have to step up and play smart...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Actually I can remember several occasions where sure tackling forced punts also underneath routes on second down being tackled before the line to gain and us stuffing the run on 3rd down. This wasnt happening during the losing streak often.

The defense improved for sure. There were still plenty of missed tackles, especially late. The tackling that forced punts also allowed that mini comeback. The Reid decision gave this whole team the wakeup call it clearly needed.

Sadly, I don't believe he will. If anything, he may resort to professional pride in the name of trying to raise his stock for the forthcoming trip to whomever swings Ray Farmer's old hatchet, but he is one of those folks who CAN NOT learn about the not-so-greener grass over "there", wherever "there" may be, until he's firmly planted on that lawn and resumes having the same, exact problems that made him sour on Kansas City.

I'm nowhere NEAR the stubborn, stone-head that Marcus Peters is, and yet there has always been only and exactly ONE WAY that a life lesson makes it's way to my head and heart:

Stone.

Cold.

Hard.

I have managed to get a little bit better with age though...

Even the best secondaries can become a shit show without pressure. You just dont compound it buy giving up on the play and let the receiver go for 20 more on top of the catch.

Ok.

That means Carr played well and our D played like shit. The exact opposite of the point you were making...
You can rewatch the game if you want. Carr last game basically stepped back and chucked up 50/50 balls all game long. Didn't even read our defense. It's not like he was making great throws or making great reads. He threw up prayer balls and our secondary stumbled all over themselves. It's the same formula Philly used against us in an otherwise solid defensive performance. Rest of the season after Pittsburgh? Different story. We got torched in different ways.

Today, our defense kept the passing game in front of us. I didn't see what our big adjustment was but that was the big X factor. We took away the big play on defense. And those big plays for the most part were not in Peters' direction last game. Unless you're going to blame Peters for Mitchell not defending a jump ball. I don't think our D with or without Peters is in very good shape. This was a good D performance today but we've usually been pretty good against Carr. So no, I don't know how Peters was an X factor given that he was not a big reason why we lost to Oakland the first time.

The Chargers have a far better offense than Oakland

I'd rank the AFC West offenses like this

1. Chargers
2. Chiefs
3. Raiders
4. Broncos

Peters, no Peters... that offense is something to worry about. They are arguably the second best team in the AFC outside of New England based on the last month of play. That is going to be a real test for the D. Hopefully this week is inspiration to be something different next week. Because our O faces its biggest test since Pittsburgh as well.

I'm hoping the Chiefs can string together enough wins to end the season and re-bump Smith's value respectably.

I've never wanted an offseason so badly in my life.

Knock on wood, but we've had some really good games against Rivers. We have a pretty good formula for beating them. I think that's a tall task without Peters. It will be a tall task if Peters decides to be the Peters we've seen the past month. The hope is that it all comes together, Peters gets religion, and this defense as a unit including Peters gels at the right time. But it's gotta happen on both sides of the ball. If Alex plays as he has the last 2 weeks and Nagy calls plays as he has, our O could be in good shape too.

Maybe the pieces are coming together at the right time. I sure hope so. This is a huge huge game given that both of our schedules are pretty light the rest of the way.

There was a time when a Chiefs fan didn't have to give the Chargers a single thought or a passing glance.

May Mahomes return us to such a destiny and way of life.
