Could be wrong, I believe the home team can choose what jerseys they will wear and the away team has to comply.

That's understandable.
I don't really get the whole thing to be honest. I can't imagine the jersey color making that much of a difference, but I guess they have to get whatever advantage they can. Players are too superstitious about uniforms. The best was when the San Jose Sharks changed their uniform from this:
