The Chiefs had pressing needs after a rough free agency, and they still have massive questions on the offensive line and at wide receiver. Dee Ford is a nice long-term gamble, but should start his career as a part-time player. Third-round cornerback Phillip Gaines seems more like a developmental prospect. Fourth-round RB/WR/return/cornerback/football player De'Anthony Thomas is a wild card. This was a draft in which the Chiefs needed some instant-impact players, and it's hard to see them here.

Truth, though it's exactly what we should be thinking of, IMO.

I sure as shit hope that Reid and Dorsey are thinking about it. They put themselves in a spot where they might have a 1-2 year window around 2016 - if they miss it, we're looking way down the road when hopefully the core consists of Houston, Berry, Poe, Cooper, Gaines and Ford.

Notice there wasn't a single offensive core player in that list.

One can only assume that the coaching staff feels like the skill position players on the offense will be upgrade by virtue of having a complete season under their belts in that system. Me, I can't believe they see either Hemmingway or Jenkins as a legit 2/3 receiver, but hey, that's why I'm not an NFL GM, I guess.

Don't understand the bolded comment. I know he can rush the passer when healthy - the point I was making was developing his other skills. While we can get away with have a pure pass rusher THIS year, he's going to be Hali's replacement NEXT year. And if all he can do is rush the passer, he's going to be an inadequate replacement, IMO.

Playmakers are playmakers. Can't be too picky about where they play except at QB. Which is why I hate the idea of drafting based on need. The more you try to draft best player available for a limited number of positions, the more likely you are to miss out on playmakers. Marqise Lee would be an awesome addition to this team. But I just don't see his upside being anywhere close to ford's.
