I don’t know that I’ve seen a game have more of a negative impact on a player than Super Bowl 50 had on Cam.

That one and the beating he took week 1 the following year were brutal.

He never really bothered to protect himself but those refs were really letting him get demolished.

Yeah, but with Cam, NE might be a playoff team.

LA is just preseason darlings with Cam. Per usual.

Cam has not won a game since Nov 4 of 2018. NE is not a playoff team BECAUSE of Cam.

I'm not disagreeing outright, but they have two very different running styles, as they should. Cam ran like Larry Johnson, while Jackson runs like Barry Sanders. One takes on contact, the other rarely takes a square hit.

He took an absolute beating, it is incredible how the Denver defense made him completely unravel. With the fossil of Peyton Manning playing on the other side, the only way Carolina loses that game is if they beat themselves, and damn if Denver's defense didn't make them do just that. Denver deserves credit, Cam was never the same after Von Miller sent him to the moon on that early sack - but the amount of unforced errors Carolina made from that point was just astounding to watch. Whoever was playcalling for Carolina in that game deserves more blame than Cam - seriously. Seven step drops against Denver's D that year was just not going to work. Funnily enough, Alex Smith was pretty much Denver's kryptonite that year. Screens, short drops, misdirection, and limiting mistakes was the way to beat them. Even the Patriots beat themselves against Denver that year. They had two critical failures on fourth down in the 4th quarter against Denver in the Championship game, if they just take the points, they beat Denver comfortably at Mile High. Andy really had Denver down (like he does all divisional foes) by the end of that season - for whatever reason no one bothered to peek at his playbook when it was playoff time.

Cam has never been looked at the same way after that game. The performance was one thing, but how he froze on that last fumble (giving Denver the game) and stormed out of the postgame just left a mark on him that he hasn't been able to shake. People forget how he was two games away from leading Carolina to an undefeated season before that game - he truly took over the league that year and it was all forgotten after that game.

I'd be curious to see a competent offensive mind work with him - seriously. He was a blast to watch when he was on.

You posted this in another thread, right? Not that it matters I just want to confirm because if not I'm deja vuing hard af right now..

But, yeah. Physically speaking, Cam is one of the best QB prospects out there. It'd be difficult to create a more impressive specimen in a lab. That 2015 year was truly a sight to see. Their defense that year was great but offensively it was basically SuperCam and a bunch of JAGs. He made them one of the most lethal offenses of the decade.

Haha, yeah. I tend to do that - you're the first that's called me out on that (though it might be why PGM downvotes me with regularity, I never figured that one out - anywho).

I always loved watching Cam and wanted to keep that conversation going but it got re-directed once other FA news came out. I don't know if it was because the Royals won it all or because of the Chiefs 11 game win streak but I remember there wasn't a lot of buzz around the season he was having. He just took over games that year and was the runaway MVP. It is baffling to watch how the Panthers dismantled the Cardinals (a truly amazing team that year) in the NFC championship game only to get rocked in the Super Bowl. I've always thought that if the Panthers roll out the Andy Reid/Alex Smith gameplan, they win that game by 10.

Washed up. If the Pats sign him I’ll punch someone in the face. They’d be better off with Dalton, Carr, Watson... hell, even Winston.

Chargers should sign Winston.

They have the defense/secondary in place to help mitigate some of the turnovers. Granted, they'd need to get him to cool the jets a little - 30 picks won't do it - but if they can get him down to 20 (an int% right at his career average over 600 pass attempts) they could handle that.

And in the meantime Winston can challenge areas of the field that Rivers hasn't been able to do anything with in years. He'll be only 26 yrs old next season and has plenty of good football - probably his BEST football - in front of him.

Winston strikes me as a no-brainer for LAC.

Newton will be 31 next year with an arm injury and a ton of pretty rough miles on him. I also don't think he's as good a pure thrower as Winston is (though he's a better decisionmaker).

Winston's upside is significantly higher, IMO. You can scheme around some poor decisions and continue to hope that experience knocks some rough edges off. But with Newton you're dealing with a track record of injury, a guy nearing the downside of his athletic prime and a person who's simply never been as accurate in terms of ball placement as you'd like.

No way. They'd rather roll with Taylor.

Look at their HC. Look at how their team is built. They very, very clearly plan to run the ball and play defense. They couldn't handle Rivers' 20 Ints last season, no way they'd opt for another high turnover QB.

They're a "game manager" type organization. I can see them going with Cam because he can play that way. He's led run oriented offenses before.

While I'd rather have Winston personally, i just can't see the Chargers going that route.

Because his body is giving out on him along with his will.

This is what Lamar is looking at if Baltimore doesn't limit his running and teach the kid to get down and not take those kill shots.
