I'd expect to really not have the same enthusiasm for following the Chiefs after being a lifelong fan and avid watcher since I was 7.

Will I follow another team? Highly unlikely.

But if we get another teams leftovers AGAIN, I'll be less than enthused.

I want Geno Smith. I want to take a flyer at picking our own guy. Even if he turns out to be a bust I'll be happy, because in this day and age with the rookie salary cap, you don't have to worry about murdering your salary cap and being screwed for years if you take a chance on a guy in the top of the 1st. If he works, great, if not, then chances are you'll have a top pick and give it another chance in getting your franchise QB - which is a must in the NFL these days.

Will Alex Smith be more productive than Matt Cassel? It would hard not to be.

Will Alex Smith ultimately lead the Chiefs to the same place Cassel did... i.e. not a Super Bowl win? Most likely.

Alex Smith was 19-5-1over the last 2 years not including playoffs. I'm sure most Chiefs fans would love to have that as our record.
His team was 1 game away from the Superbowl in 2011 but lost to who?? The Giants. The same team who beat GB, Atlanta, and NE. The G-men played out of their minds that year, beat a lot of great teams. No shame in losing there.
The thing with Smith is he isn't flashy, or dynamic like Kapernick. His stats aren't gonna win you any fantasy football championship like Rodgers or Brees. He reminds me more of Flacco. Quiet, reserved, wins games.
If we draft a QB in addition to Smith, I can live with him as our QB for the time being as long as we didn't give up too much in the trade.
