The SNL Thread

I've been considering doing this for a while, so here goes. A thread to discuss anyone & anything relating to the show.

They keep a pretty tight lid on all images & apparently stay after youtube as well, so those kinds of things might be a 'lil hard to come by, but oh well.

Pretty much everyone here seems to be a fan of it on some level, so it might be kinda fun.

Its as close to Cant Miss Television as there is for me.

I watched last night while laying in bed falling asleep.....it.....wasn't good. Like.....bad. And I'm usually pretty forgiving. (Not every skit can be a homerum). That big black chick is not funny at all.

Nah.

I can still watch all of the old reruns (90's through early 2000's) and my sides hurt afterward... but these days, it just isn't the same.

My humor hasn't changed, theirs has.

To be honest, when I watch some of those original cast skits... they really feel dated.

Not all, but many of them do, atleast to me.

I disagree.

People have selective memories. In each era, people have said it's unfunny, only to be viewed by others as the "funniest ever". The truth is somewhere in between.

It generally takes a full year after there's been major turnover before the show starts clicking. It happened when the Mike Myers crew took over and left, the Will Farrell crew took over and left, the Tina Fey and Amy Poehler crew took over and left and most recently, when Seth Meyer, Sudekis and Wiig left.

To me, Saturday's show was the dawn of the newest era. Taran Killem and Cecily Strong killed it as Donald and Melania, Kate was awesome as always and Colin and Michael got their News vibe happening.

Personally, I like Leslie Jones as well and I certainly admire her journey (she's 48 years old).

Hmmm. I smiled in anticipation, but it was like those old Jarret's Room skits with Jimmy Fallon-Horatio Sanz where they are laughing at themselves, but turns out to be painfully banal.

Yeah, I re-read that and I sound like John Houseman.

I thought there were some great lines in it. Particularly when she referred the situation of having a shirt on but no pants as "porky pigin' it"

Kate McKinnon is funny as shit though.
Aidy Bryant makes me laugh pretty hard as well.

I can remember a time when missing SNL would be a terrible thing, I long for those days. Don't get me wrong, this was pretty funny, but it was funny and we're fortunate that something not so liberally and politically chareged managed to get passed their leadership.

And I like me some political satire, but theirs is usually pretty terrible.

Anyway, thanks for posting something they did that was awesome.
