Do we want DeHop?

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl...9536dcd3&ei=21

Story by Andrew Gould

The Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl without a star wide receiver, but they could reportedly make an elite offense even scarier by acquiring DeAndre Hopkins.

NFL insider Benjamin Albright told PHNX Cardinals that Kansas City is the "primary suitor" for Hopkins. He doesn't know the draft compensation the Cardinals would receive, but he said it's more likely they get a second-round pick than a first.

After the 2022 season, theScore's Jordan Schultz reported that the Cardinals plan to trade Hopkins this offseason.

Arizona hired a new general manager and head coach after a disappointing four-win season, and Hopkins is set to make $19.45 million (with a $30.75 million cap hit) in 2023. The Cardinals could seek a clean slate by moving the three-time All-Pro wideout, who turns 31 in June.

Hopkins began his Cardinals career by tallying 1,407 yards and six touchdowns in 2020. However, multiple lower body injuries limited him to 10 games in 2021, and he served a six-game suspension to start the 2022 season for violating the NFL's PED policy.

Yet he remains an impact player when on the field. Hopkins totaled 474 receiving yards in six full games with quarterback Kyler Murray last season.

Now imagine what he can accomplish when catching passes from Patrick Mahomes.

The Chiefs flourished without a star replacement for Tyreek Hill, but they could still benefit by solidifying the position this offseason. JuJu Smith-Schuster is a free agent after garnering 78 catches for 933 yards on a one-year deal. The depth chart features several talented question marks in Mecole Hardman, Kadarius Toney, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

Adding Hopkins could be great news for Kansas City, but terrible for all opposing defenses.

Do we want a high priced prima donna?

With the ability to roll money year to year, burning 20 mil isn't just about this year. That's 20 mil you could have next year to pay for x or y or z.

I don't really disagree with him, the Chiefs WR room doesn't lack talent, it lacks consistency.

MVS entire career is inconsistency, Skyy Moore who knows what he'll be...Toney tends to get hurt ALOT, Rashee Rice no one knows...

We're an injury and someone not showing up away from this entire forum going bonkers about ignoring the position.

Exactly.

Toney has played more than 10 games in a season exactly once between college and the pros. That's not definitive, but it's not insignificant either.

Skyy may be yet another season from being ready to play in all situations in this offense at the NFL level.

We know exactly nothing performance-wise about the rest of the WR room, and several of those guys also have significant injury histories.

If Toney goes down for more than a game or two, Skyy struggles at all, MVS is exactly what he was last season . . . our next-best options are Richie James and Justin Watson?

I wonder what the odds are that Travis can cross 2,000 yards/18 TDs at 34? Or if that would even be enough to keep the ship afloat?

You should expect MVS to be what he was last season, that's who he is.

As a Chief's fan, I am worried about the WR room.

But even with the league's best QB, you aren't guaranteed a perfect SB roster each and every year. If players stay healthy and/or step up it could be a strength or it could really hold the team back this year and put a lot stress on Mahomes to make up for it.

The salary cap and draft is intended to keep one team from staying on top every single year.

We will have to see.

So I get that its difficult to bank on Toney and Skyy Moore to be there all season, but how does DHop fix that issue? There are plenty of age and injury issues there too.

There might be injury concerns with DHop, though the MCL strain seems to have been much less serious than originally thought.

However, age doesn't seem to be a problem for him, yet. Based on the nine games he did play in 2022 and projecting for just the six games he missed due to suspension, he would've surpassed 1,300 yards and 6+ TDs, receiving passes from the 20th ranked QB (dead last in passes beyond 25 yards), and two backup QBs not ranked in the first 50 passers in the league.

I went to two ARI games last year, and he had no issues beating no. 1 DBs deep.

The key thing is his suspension. Ask yourself why he got busted for PEDs after a season ending injury.

He clearly is aware that he is getting old and needed help to get back to playing shape.

Maybe. Though did you see how much 'PED' they actually found in his system? It was 0.1% or something like that. Almost negligible.

Some doctor they brought onto one of the local sportscasts admitted that the amount indicated that it wasn't likely Hopkins was using it for recovery purposes, because it wasn't enough to do anything significant.

The doc said that probably more likely that the substance (that I can never remember the name of, sorry) was ingested incidentally along with whatever he was really taking.

But sure, if he was taking something for recovery knowingly, that might be an issue for a team looking at adding him to their roster.

I've never said that Deandre was Iron Man; just that some people are blowing his injury history out of proportion, making it appear that Deandre is 'washed,' or doesn't have the ability to play at the NFL level, when he clearly (if you watched him last year) is still playing at a very high level.

He was busted for a SARM. That is not something that is accidentally taken.

I would put money he thought it would be out of his system as quickly as something like HGH. SARM's are usually detectable for a couple of weeks vs 48 hours like HGH.

Like I said, just going by what the doc on tv said. I’m not a doctor, just raised by them, which doesn’t make me any kind of expert about PEDs.

Regardless, it wasn’t the in his system at the start of the season, and he was more than fine for the 9 games he played in.

They absolutely have the money for it. Why do people think we don't? The cap never stopped the pats or saints from investing for years in their offense. And we're not even talking big splashes. We're talking about one single short term insurance policy. Giving $20m for the luxury of cutting a WR whenever you want to isn't the same as locking a WR to a long term deal.

And a lot of this logic is built around the idea that we need to save for 5 years from now instead of riding the Reid and Kelce primes. Our window is red hot right now.

Youre basically resting all your hopes in a WR1 who is frequently injured which means we're a heartbeat away from skyy being WR1. Yeah, no. Skyy can thrive in the slot and prove his way into WR2. If you worry about toneys health you will still find plenty of snaps for rice and a chance for skyy to work in an elevated role. You can give justyn Ross a full year to prove he can stay healthy. And mvs becomes more a role player. We have lots of potential but also a lot of HUGE question marks which can be solved by a simple bandaid so you don't have to bleed out before it gets better. Because if any of these dominoes fall.. if toney doesn't stay healthy, skyy underwhelms in an elevated role, rashee isn't NFL ready yet, the dominoes can fall very quickly.
