Do we want DeHop?

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl...9536dcd3&ei=21

Story by Andrew Gould

The Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl without a star wide receiver, but they could reportedly make an elite offense even scarier by acquiring DeAndre Hopkins.

NFL insider Benjamin Albright told PHNX Cardinals that Kansas City is the "primary suitor" for Hopkins. He doesn't know the draft compensation the Cardinals would receive, but he said it's more likely they get a second-round pick than a first.

After the 2022 season, theScore's Jordan Schultz reported that the Cardinals plan to trade Hopkins this offseason.

Arizona hired a new general manager and head coach after a disappointing four-win season, and Hopkins is set to make $19.45 million (with a $30.75 million cap hit) in 2023. The Cardinals could seek a clean slate by moving the three-time All-Pro wideout, who turns 31 in June.

Hopkins began his Cardinals career by tallying 1,407 yards and six touchdowns in 2020. However, multiple lower body injuries limited him to 10 games in 2021, and he served a six-game suspension to start the 2022 season for violating the NFL's PED policy.

Yet he remains an impact player when on the field. Hopkins totaled 474 receiving yards in six full games with quarterback Kyler Murray last season.

Now imagine what he can accomplish when catching passes from Patrick Mahomes.

The Chiefs flourished without a star replacement for Tyreek Hill, but they could still benefit by solidifying the position this offseason. JuJu Smith-Schuster is a free agent after garnering 78 catches for 933 yards on a one-year deal. The depth chart features several talented question marks in Mecole Hardman, Kadarius Toney, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

Adding Hopkins could be great news for Kansas City, but terrible for all opposing defenses.

Also, I don't get how you think Jones would be playing in a different uni, considering that Veach said out loud several times that he was also going to make every effort to keep CJ as well, even after signing Tyreek.

He literally announced to the NFL world that he had plans to keep both Tyreek and Jones, AND sign a guy like AJ Brown.

That's not my interpretation; it's exactly what he said, and literally what he tried to do.

Like I said, nobody said mahomes NEEDS Jerry rice. And absolutely nobody is saying Justin Jefferson is at all realistic.

There are people saying a WR1 is regressive. And who insist that this offense was worse off when we had a WR1. I know the chiefs will address it. The bitching is more disbelief that some fans convinced themselves that this offense wouldn't be better with Jerry Rice even if handed to us on a silver platter (obviously an exaggeration... Just rolling with your example).

We will be more than fine if the youth experiment doesn't substantially improve our WR room. But it would be a damn shame and it would make a difference.

Haven't forgot about him. I like the potential of our WR room. But he's still an unknown and it would be nice to give it a year to see if his legs can hold up. We've got plenty of puzzle pieces but early on they're going to be scattered all over the place. And there still is a distinct possibility we'll finish the season with one of those pieces still missing.

I dont agree. Our window is now. Kelce has maybe 2 years left. Grab an elite WR at almost any cost

AJ Brown said that KC was trying to trade for him.

So, that’s the type of receiver Veach was looking for and he drafted a prospect with a similar upside.

#1: Our window is every single year Mahomes is under center.

#2. Kelce had arguably his BEST year ever last year. He showed zero signs of regression. Why all of a sudden is he running out of time? He wants to break every single TE receiving record. For all we know he is going to play at a high level well into his late 30s.

Our window will always be open with mahomes. But the window will never be as wide open as when you also have two GOATs in Reid and Kelce. There's no guarantee it'll be nearly as easy then as it is now.

Kelce could play for a while. But it's an inevitability that age will catch up to him sometime. Maybe not all at once but gradual. It doesn't help that without WR help we continue to demand heavy usage from him. We need WRs to step up so we can demand less from him and also because with every regression, the WR room needs to get that much better. We are also making a big assumption that Reid is here 5 years from now. I hope these guys are here forever but it's just a reality check.

The point isn't that we have to go all buffalo bills and desperately throw money at guys for a run before the window closes.

Which is why we traded for a first round WR, and drafted two second round WRs in the last twelve months.

You guys are way too hung up on past production. That's a significant investment in the position.

I don’t know why people fret over these details so much. Is there any guarantee that the Chiefs will win a bunch more SBs? Of course not. But there’s every reason to believe that they’ll stay in the mix.

They just won it all with a one-legged Mahomes, no above average WRs, weak tackle play, and an average-at-best defense. They finished the AFCC down 4 of their top 5 WRs and still beat an excellent team. The supporting cast does not have to be incredible.

Everyone was worried about life after Tyreek Hill. First game without him was one of the most dominant and efficient offensive performances ever. They finished the season with a more efficient offense than the previous year.

Life without Kelce will be fine too. Veach isn’t going anywhere. He’s still going to be killing it in the draft long after Kelce retires. Ownership isn’t going anywhere. Reid, I suspect, will coach until he’s physically incapable. And when he steps down, a like-minded disciple will step in.

Another important thing to consider is that Mahomes is still learning and probably hasn’t even reached his prime yet.

And even IF the offense fell off a bit, the defense might rise up to compensate. They definitely appear to be building a pretty special defense.
