The Kim Anderson news got me to thinking what would have happened if MU hires Self instead of Snyder. Self would probably be the head coach at Oklahoma State by now, after accepting a really big check from good 'ol T. Boone Pickens. And I think we can all agree that Self would have made MU a top program. Maybe not Blue Blood successful, but I have no doubt they would have been a perennial top 20 team.

Who was our second choice when we hired Self? I am pretty he was our first choice, and since we hired him I don't really remember who other possible targets were. What would the last 15 years have been like without Self? Would that hire still be the KU Head Coach or would we already be on a second or third coach?

On a similar note, I hope Mason goes into coaching at some point, and is one day the KU Head Coach. Or maybe even Lucas. Frank clearly loves KU and point guard seems to be a popular position for head coaches. I love Danny, but I hope he never becomes the KU Head Coach. I never want to face the possibility of him failing at KU.

Self wanted the MU job, otherwise he would have declined the interview. MU was a respectable program under Norm Stewart.

I would love for Bill Self to continue to coach KU for the next 15 years, but it's not gonna happen. He will be 69 in 15 years, and I am pretty sure Self has indicated that he won't be coaching that long.

entirely possible as im simply talking out of my ass. ima outta towner these later years so im not up on the talk. no way self was going to mu tho. i printed the paper at the LJW the year he was hired. there was no TRUE talk about missouri. anyways, as long as he retires with three more titles i don't really care if it's in four years he retires. i just want him to go down as the greatest basketball coach ever... while with KU

Self is no Marshall, so I believe if he didn't want the the job, he would have declined the interview. As best as I can see, Self did not leverage the MU interview for more money. Are you saying that Self took the interview with no intention of ever accepting the job, or are you saying that MU never had any intention of hiring Self?

I say Self would have taken the job if it had been offered to him. At the time it would have been going from a small mid-major school to a school in a power conference with a recent history of being relatively successful. Between Mizzou and Illinois, at the time I think Missouri would have been considered a better job. Bill left Tulsa for Illinois when offered, so why wouldn't he have taken the Missouri job?

Just because he is our coach now, doesn't mean anything in regards to the past. I hate MU, but at the time they were not the dumpster fire they are now. Quinn Snyder filled the dumpster with trash and poured the gasoline on it, and Mike Anderson & Haith threw fire on the gasoline. Then Kim Anderson came along, and instead of putting the fire out, he just stood on the side lines roasting marshmallows and collecting checks.

I'm pretty sure the list included Jay Wright, Tom Crean, and Mark Turgeon.

Self to Oklahoma State is possible. Sutton left at the end of the 2006 season, so Self would have been coming off just 3 total seasons at MU.

But I always figured Self was meant for a blue blood program. Even if he went to OSU, he might've ended up at Kentucky instead of Calipari in 2009.
