Homework Assignment on Chiefs Defense over last three weeks.

I do not have time to do this myself, or I would. Could someone compute the stats for just the past three weeks over the entire NFL, and see what the defense would be ranking in the important categories over that three week stretch?

Thanks in advance!

yards per play is the most important stat, in conjunction with third down percentage

we are giving up 4.5 yards per play

that would rank #2 in the NFL by 0.2 yards

third down % allowed is 34.1, which would rank 6th

Agreed.

But which stats are important can get kind of subjective, which is all I meant in my other post.

"Potential points per play," is a stat, and even if I'am not interested in that one, others think it's a big deal, for example.

I tend to look at the ones you've mentioned, as well as things like points given up per game, passing yards given up per attempt, rushing yards given up per play, etc.

yards per play is frequently given weight because it exists independent of things like turnovers and an offense giving the ball back to the other team too much

I know I've calculated rush yards/play over the last three games recently, which was about 3.8 yards/rush, which would be in the top 10. I also did pass yards/attempt, but I don't recall that result off the top of my head.

We need the OP to post a list of the stat lines he's interested in.

That is very impressive. Hopefully, this is the start of something special.

Well, they gave up something like 375 yards to Green Bay and didn't force a punt in the second half. So, it's not all roses. But it definitely shows major improvement from a month or so ago.

What's scary to think about is how many yards and points we lost because the defense couldn't get off the field. Howie long once talked about how he'd bet we were losing at least 1.5 possessions per game under mahomes.

Imagine a historically great offense matched with a defense that can now stop the run.

I'm also curious to see how the defense reacts once opposing offenses have an emergency to score on every possession because our offense is unstoppable.

Opposing offenses learned they can be successful running the ball and wearing our defense down. But that doesn't work if our defense makes run stops. In fact it backfires big time.

So teams may start attacking us with an aggressive pass attack. I have a feeling our defense will soon start giving up big chunk yards and more points, but force a lot more sacks and turnovers.

yeah, well...fine.

If someone wants to try to just drop back and chuck it every down, it's their QB's funeral.

Awesome! Thanks Dart! Those are impressive numbers considering where we started this season on that side of the ball. Backs up what the eyeball test is showing.

Wow. Thanks for posting.

Honestly, that's far better than what I was hoping for when this season began.

I know, it's just three weeks. But the Chiefs played two playoff-caliber teams in those three weeks to produce those stats.

When you compare the numbers from the first three weeks, it's really incredible.
