"wheel and deal? The Chiefs really like youngster Tyler Bray and I get the sense wouldn't be averse to making a deal. If teams get short at QB -- a Green Bay or Pittsburgh for instance -- KC could be the first phone call. Murray coming along and Daniel has won games in the league."

Chiefs see a future for QB Tyler Bray

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Between an ankle injury that cost him the 2014 season and a torn ACL that kept him out of offseason practice and training camp this year, the Kansas City Chiefs haven’t seen a lot of quarterback Tyler Bray.

But they like what they have seen. They like it enough to make the unusual move of extending the contract of an undrafted quarterback who has never played in a regular-season game.

ESPN’s Field Yates reports the Chiefs have signed Bray to a two-year extension through 2017. Yates reports the extension is worth $1.925 million, though Bray could earn up to $4.425 million.

The move gives the Chiefs another quarterback to throw into their long-term mix along with Alex Smith, whose contract was extended last year, and Aaron Murray. Their other quarterback, Chase Daniel, is in the final season of his contract.

Bray joined the Chiefs in 2013 and in his two training camps with the team has shown the ability to make all the throws. In those preseasons, Bray is 40-of-72 for 458 yards and five touchdowns. Bray has also thrown three interceptions.

Bray threw three touchdown passes in a 2013 exhibition game against the Green Bay Packers.
